20 weeks pregnant already!? Time is just flying by and I can’t believe I am already at the half way point! The last couple of weeks have been pretty hectic with getting the bedrooms organised ready to switch about. I’m also really pleased as I’ve made a good start on buying bits for our baby boy. I have picked up so many bargains in the January sales and I have started to make a list of all of the bigger items we’ll be needing to buy too. I never did get round to posting my 18 week update so this update will cover how I’ve been getting on since my last post at 16 weeks!
HOW FAR ALONG?

HOW’S BABY DOING?
At week 20, baby is the size of a banana. Measuring about 25.6cm in length (this is now measured from head to toe rather than crown to runp!) and he weighs up to 10.6oz. Babies ears are now in their final position and stand out from his head. Apparently he also has little eyebrows starting to appear too! A whitish coat of a slick, fatty substance called vernix caseosa begins to cover your baby. It acts as a moisturiser and lubricant, helping to protect her delicate skin from drying out in the amniotic fluid.
Since my last update I have had my 16 week midwife appointment which wasn’t actually until just before I turned 18 weeks. Everything went perfectly which is always reassuring. She was more than happy with my blood test results, my urine sample and my blood pressure which is always such a relief too. I have my 20 week scan in a couple of days too which I’m looking forward too.
I lost the few lbs I gained over the festive period pretty quickly thankfully. Which means I am now up around 7lbs from my pre pregnancy weight which I am actually very pleased with. I piled on so much weight in my first pregnancy and I’m trying so hard to avoid this happening again.
Pain. SO MUCH PAIN. I’m really suffering with awful pain in my pelvic and pubic bone area. It started a couple of weeks ago now and is showing no signs of easing up sadly. I’m thinking I may have to book in for some physio soon as I think it may be the start of PPGP (pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain). I am also still feeling super tired most of the time which is slightly annoying as I thought the second trimester was when you got all your energy back! Still waiting for that pregnancy glow over here!!
I am definitely feeling some movement now and I am super excited for those little kicks to get stronger. I was actually beginning to worry a little as I was sure I felt Bella move earlier than this. Baby boy only seems to move when I get into bed in the evenings, or at least that is the time I notice it the most! Feeling baby move is definitely one of my favourite parts of pregnancy and I’ve been really enjoying laying in bed each evening feeling him squirm about.
I think I have a few new ones on my boobs sadly or they could just be old ones that are more noticeable now as my poor boobs seem to just keep bloody growing!! I am trying really hard to be more consistent with applying my bio oil twice a day as I keep forgetting.
Sleep still isn’t great, I’ve been popping a small pillow under my bump at night to try and support it better but I still feel like I just toss and turn all night long. I have also been having the strangest dreams every night for the last couple of weeks which I suspect is probably hormone related!
I have been loving satsumas recently which I suppose isn’t a bad craving to have! Apart from that I seem to have a constant hankering for Japanese food and chicken katsu curry! I know where we are going for our date night next month 😉
HOW I’M FEELING?
Apart from the pain, I’m feeling okay! I’ve felt a little overwhelmed at times lately. I am trying to get myself a bit more organised which is definitely helping me to stop stressing.
Walking without feeling like my pelvis might snap. Ouch.
FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?
Josh bought me a gorgeous new grey coat for Christmas which I’ve been loving wearing. The buttons on it do just about do up at the moment! Although I tend to wear it open anyway so it should last me through these cold months which means I won’t need to buy a Maternity coat. I also found my maternity leggings from last time which are super comfy, but they sadly have a hole in so I’ll need some new ones!
BEST MOMENT THIS
There has been a fair few! Obviously hearing babies heartbeat at my midwife appointment was my favourite. It’s such a magical sound and it always makes me feel a little emotional too. But Josh and I also enjoyed a lovely spa break for his birthday a couple of weeks back which was just blissful. We have also made a start on shuffling our bedrooms around at home to make space for our baby boy’s arrival. Josh and I have moved into what was our guest bedroom, Bella and the baby will then be sharing our old bedroom and the room that Bella is in now will become a shared office for Josh and I!
We have also finally settled on a name for baby boy!!
LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Making a proper start on the children’s shared bedroom over the next couple of weeks and of course seeing baby again at our 20 week anomaly scan at the end of the week!
