    Weekend Mini Style #2

Today we ticked the first thing off our Festive Bucket List by getting our Christmas Tree! Bella and I both wore our Christmas jumpers for the first time this season (Daddy’s apparently didn’t go with his outfit?!) and I may have text my sister to make sure her family wore theirs too and by chance my Dad had joined in also. So yes, we were that family that went out for breakfast together all wearing matching christmas jumpers ūüėČ (Apart from Josh.. boo him)

Jumper – Primark | Denim Skirt – Marks & Spencer | Fairisle Tights – Sainsburys | Chelsea Boots – Next

I picked up this reindeer jumper from Primark a couple of weeks back and it’s much thicker than I expected and was a bargain at only ¬£7. The nose is actually 3D which Bella was very impressed with and I even managed to match her hair bow with the polka dot one on the jumper ūüėČ My favourite bit is definitely the red heart elbow patches! I just love an elbow patch.

I teamed the jumper with a denim skirt, festive tights and chelsea boots but I think it would look equally cute with skinny jeans or even red leggings.

Little Miss Sassy Pants is such a poser ¬†diva¬†ūüėČ

    Our Festive Bucket List

    festive bucket list

I love a list. Especially a bucket list. My husband and I write one together at the beginning of every year and have done since we¬†first got together when we were 14! I get serious satisfaction about crossing something off¬†my list. As it’s¬†officially December now¬†I thought I would share a few festive things we are hoping to do over the upcoming festive period!

    • Kick off December by choosing our Christmas tree¬†& spend the afternoon¬†decorating it while listening to cheesy Christmas music
    • Go to a couple of local Christmas markets
    • Bake & decorate gingerbread biscuits with Bella
    • Have a festive hot chocolate from Starbucks or Costa…or both ūüėČ
    • Take Bella to visit Santa. This will actually be her first time as we felt she was too young the last two years
    • Go for an evening trip to see the Christmas lights. The houses in the¬†village my husband grew up in go all out at Christmas on the lights front and it’s definitely worth a visit
    • Have our friends over for a cheese board evening and to play board games. We have a Christmas meal at ours together every year and it’s the perfect chance to catch up & exchange gifts!
    • Lots of¬†walks in the crisp December fresh air & possibly a family trip to the farm
    • Make salt dough ornaments with Bella
    • Take lots of festive photos on my new camera
    • Spend a whole day in our Pyjamas watching Christmas films (and pigging out on Christmas treats no doubt!)
    • Have a candle lit picnic by the Christmas tree
    • Make home baked Christmas gifts for friends & family. I make the most incredible chocolate orange brownies every year and last year Josh made some tomato chutney. This year I’m going to try some new recipes too including some rather tasty looking Oreo truffles I found on Pinterest!
    • Spend Christmas Day at the in laws with Josh’s family. I’m so excited for this! Especially as it means Bella gets to spend the day with her cousins which she will absolutely¬†love!
    • Host Boxing Day Lunch for my family. Josh is already talking about doing three different meats with ALLLL the trimmings. Lord help my waistline.
    • Make Turkey flan with leftovers. It’s honestly amaaaazing. But then again anything with cheese pastry gets a thumbs up from me ūüėČ

What’s on your festive bucket list this year?

    Me & Mine {November 2015}

This is my first time joining in with this wonderful Linky! Before I started my own blog I would always admire all my favourite bloggers’ Me & Mine family portraits so I thought it was about time I joined in myself!

November has been such a lovely busy month for us. We celebrated Bella’s 2nd birthday at the beginning of the month with a fireworks party with our nearest and dearest. (Still can’t believe she’s TWO!) We then had a wonderful day in London at the BBC Good Food Show and even saw the baking Queen herself; Mary Berry! Josh and I enjoyed a blissful child free dinner and night away for my birthday along with¬†a couple of other lovely¬†birthday meals with family & friends. Overall November has been wonderful. One of those months that just makes you feel all warm & fuzzy inside.¬†After¬†all the terrible recent events happening¬†around the world¬†I’m feeling¬†extra grateful to be able to experience all these lovely moments with my little family. I’m holding them just that little bit tighter.

Now that November is¬†coming to an end¬†and all the Birthday shenanigans are over I am finally ready to embrace Christmas with open arms! Thanks to Black Friday I have now made a good start on my Christmas shopping and am expecting lots of deliveries over the new week or so. We’re planning to go and choose our tree next weekend and decorate the house, I’m really excited for that this year as Bella gets so excited whenever she sees a Christmas tree in a shop and yells ‘TREEEEEE MUMMYYYYY!’ Too.Freaking.Cute. We’ve also got a few festive family days planned which I’m really looking forward to.

Our first ever Me & Mine Family Portrait was taken by Charlotte Rawles Photography at our Autumn Mini Shoot on the 1st of November and I think it’s my new favourite photo of the three of us! I set it as the wallpaper on my iPhone and it makes me smile every time I see it. I just received my first ever DSLR as a joint birthday & Christmas present from my Dad and I can’t wait to have a proper play with it and snap lots of family photos over the festive season!

    Second Birthday Celebrations

As I¬†type this¬†I’m still struggling to comprehend the fact that I’m now a Mama to a Two year old… Before I know it she’ll be starting school.. Sob.¬†Anywaaay I thought I’d share what we got up to over Bella’s birthday weekend. Better late than never, hey ūüėČ

Last year we had a lovely¬†‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ themed party to celebrate Bella’s first birthday. This year we decided to have more of an outdoorsy affair and opted for a Fireworks party the night before Bella’s birthday with a loose woodland theme. We have a huuuuge back garden so thought it would be a good idea to utilise the space for once! Josh put up a gazebo on the decking (in gail force winds and pouring rain might I add) and I just added some simple white fairy lights. I didn’t bother with any other decorations outside as the weather was so hideous there was just no point! Luckily by the time people started arriving the rain had stopped.

Decorations wise I kept it pretty simple with more white fairy lights over the fireplace in the dining room and on the table that I displayed all the sweet treats on. I scattered some pine cones around the room along with some super cute little felt toadstalls. Keeping with the woodland theme I used a few slices of wood that I borrowed from my sisters leftover wedding stash to display the woodland paper plates & napkins on. Lastly I hung the pink paper garlands that I originally bought for Bella’s party last year above the dining table.

For savoury food we did lots of slow cooked pulled pork served in white bread rolls with grated cheese & coleslaw. These were a big hit and I’d definitely do them again for a bonfire night celebration. We also did hot dogs with caramelised onions and lots of hot potato wedges.

On the sweet table Bella’s wonderful woodland birthday cake definitely stole the show. It was a¬†four layered Victoria sponge sandwiched with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream. I baked the sponges and my very talented Mother in law covered and decorated the cake. I was so pleased with how it turned out, the little animals and toadstools were adorable! I also made two trays of salted caramel double chocolate brownies (bit of a mouthful…quite literally), the most amazing buttery flapjacks and apple, cinnamon & fudge muffins which everyone loved.¬†I find it so satisfying when others¬†enjoy your baking! ūüôā I have already posted the muffins recipe but will share the other two recipes over the next¬†couple of¬†weeks as they are both SO tasty but also super easy to make!

After we served the food the evening consisted of glow sticks, marshmallow toasting, sparklers & fireworks (that were a mild disaster thanks to the damp weather!) We finished off the evening by singing Happy Birthday to the birthday girl and she opened a few presents!

Bella loved every second of her birthday party (apart from when she burnt her finger on a sparkler) which of course is the main thing but I think everybody else enjoyed themselves too!

On Bella’s actual birthday we had a quiet morning at home opening presents with a special birthday breakfast of croissants and orange juice. Followed by lunch out and¬†an afternoon visting the farm we have annual memberships for. It was so nice to have a relaxed day just the three of us and it meant we could give the birthday girl our full attention, which of course she loved!!

Here’s a few iPhone snaps of her birthday weekend. I was so busy at the party I didn’t get chance to get many good ones!

    Autumn Family Photos

‘We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone’

We recently had an Autumn mini photo shoot with the extremely talented Charlotte Rawles Photography. Char is in fact my lovely sister in law and we have been lucky enough to have her capture every step of our journey into parenthood including being our amazing birthing partner and taking the most precious photos of my labour & Bella’s birth. She also took maternity photos of us, photos of Bella as a newborn, 3, 6 & 9 months old and a special shoot for Bella’s first birthday. So of course we had to get some up to date family photos for Bella’s second birthday!

I can’t stress enough how important I think it is to have professional photos taken of your little ones. Children grow so fast and capturing these special moments is crucial. Photos are such a lovely thing to have to look back on over the years to come. I often find myself looking back through photos of Bella as a tiny babe and I can’t wait to show them all to her when she’s older.

Charlotte always manages to capture Bella’s growing personality perfectly and in the most natural way. Her style of photography is so fresh. Most of my favourite ever photos have been taken by Char over the years,¬†not only of Bella but I always love the snaps ¬†of her own children (Bella’s cousins & our niece & nephews) and even photos from my own Sisters wedding that Charlotte photographed last year. Our home is full of her work and I’m so excited to get these Autumn photos up on the walls!

Here are just a few of my favourites (it was very hard to choose as I love them all!!)

    Dear Bella,

On Sunday you turned two years old. TWO WHOLE YEARS OLD.¬†I just can’t believe how quickly these last two years have gone. It only seems like yesterday we were bringing you home all wrapped up in the same pink blanket that now¬†lays on the end of your toddler bed. It was a cold November evening and we were SO very ¬†excited albeit slightly nervous¬†to start our new life as a family of three. Even though these last two years have flown by much quicker than I’d like to admit, I also can’t imagine our¬†lives without you.

When you turned One you were still such a baby to me. You weren’t quite walking yet, you only said a few words and you¬†were more than happy for Mama to help you when you needed it. Your wispy baby hair is now long gone and has grown into the most beautiful thick curls which always recieves such lovely compliments. Since your first birthday you¬†have grown from a baby to a fully fledged toddler and my heart could burst with pride for the wonderful little girl you are becoming. This past year has been full of ‘firsts’ and I feel so blessed to be your Mama. To be able to watch you take those first unaided steps, to listen to your little voice mispronounce all these new words you have learnt and to hold your hand for every step of the way (when you let me that is, Miss independent!). You are such a clever little thing and you definitely keep us on our toes.

You are an extremely strong willed and feisty little girl and as much as it drives me crazy sometimes, it’s one of the things I really love about you. You are so determined to be as independent as possible which means you will rarely accept help anymore and ‘No Waaaaaaay’ is your new favourite phrase. You make us laugh every single day with your quirky little ways, the way you can’t help but dance when you hear music and the way you call your Daddy ‘Jooooossshhh’ sometimes to get his full attention.

Cuddles aren’t really your thing, unless you are under the weather or especially tired. But you do love to read and I relish those moments when you clamber onto my lap for a story and a snuggle. Occasionally you’ll surprise me and insist I sit with you so you can hold my hand or rest your head on me while you suck your thumb after a busy day at Nursery. It doesn’t happen often so I always stop whatever it is I am doing to join you because I know those moments won’t last forever.

I feel so much more emotional about you turning Two, Bella Boo. But if Two is anywhere near as much fun as One then¬†I honestly can’t wait.

    Happy Birthday Beautiful Girl.

I love you more than I ever thought possible.

    Love Mummy xxxxx
