On the 18th of June 2018, you turned one whole year old. The past year seems to have flown by at lightening speed and I just can’t get my head around how we are here already. It’s so bittersweet. Because I already miss your baby days. The newborn haze which consisted only of sleepless nights, nursing you and snuggling you close. Your beautiful new baby smell is now a distant memory and I would give anything to turn back time just to have one more day snuggling you as a tiny newborn babe again.
But on the other hand, I have loved watching you grow over the past year. With the blondest hair and the bluest eyes you are undeniably beautiful. You have such a cheeky personality and you’re already getting yourself into so much mischief. You walk, you climb and you yell. Oh boy, do you yell! Whether you are happy, sad, tired or cross. You let us all know, by making such a racket!
Hugo boy, your laugh is infectious and no matter how cheeky you are being, I can’t help but laugh and smile with you. You are utterly adored by everyone. I am often stopped in the supermarket by strangers who almost always compliment you on your big blue eyes and lovely toothy smile!
Your sister is absolutely besotted with you and has been from the moment she laid eyes on you. Every morning she rushes into your bedroom and clambers into your cot armed with various toys and books to entertain you while I get ready in the morning. I love to listen to you both giggling away together.
You really are such a special little boy Hugo and you have slotted into our family dynamic better than I could have ever imagined. You have filled a hole I never knew was even there.
We celebrated your first birthday a couple of days early with a joint celebration at your grandparents’ house. We ate BBQ food, you played with balloons, your cousins and sister swam in the pool while you took a nap. And then when you woke, you happily devoured your first slice of birthday cake. It was simple but lovely.
On your actual birthday we did all the things you love most. We started the day with presents and croissants before heading to soft play for a couple of hours and a spot of lunch. The afternoon was spent at home playing with your new toys before Nanny and Grandad came over for mac n cheese (your favourite!). You finished your special day off with a quick visit from your cousins before bedtime.
Happy 1st Birthday Hugo Bear! We love you SO much. Xxxxx
