A Birthday Afternoon Tea At The Secret Pantry

Afternoon Tea is probably one of my favourite things ever. So much so, that we actually opted for a three course afternoon tea for our Wedding breakfast! We served it on mis-matched vintage china along with glasses of bubbly and pots of tea. Everybody absolutely loved it and whenever I have an afternoon tea now it reminds me of all those lovely memories from our wedding day. So I suppose you could say it holds a special place in my heart.

My Sister and I decided it would be nice to treat our Mum to afternoon tea on her birthday so last Wednesday we headed to The Secret Pantry in Tenterden, Kent. I hadn’t ever been before but I had a quick look on their website and it sounded right up my street.

As soon as we walked in I noticed how The Secret Pantry had a very relaxed feel to it and I especially loved the décor. Lots of pastel fabrics covering the chairs and there was two shabby chic dressers lined with lots of beautiful vintage crockery, I even spotted a couple of the tea sets we had on our wedding day which made me smile!

We ordered The Secret Pantry Afternoon Tea for three which was £9.50 per person which I think is very reasonable as you can pay so much more elsewhere. The portions were extremely generous, there was plenty of food for three adults and a toddler, we even ended up taking some of the cake home as we couldn’t manage it all! We had a whole three tier cake stand stacked full of the most delicious finger sandwiches. There was a selection of egg mayonnaise, roast beef & horseradish, ham & mustard, smoked salmon & cream cheese and cheese & cucumber. On the second cake stand we had three warm fruit scones served with butter, clotted cream and the cutest miniature jars of strawberry jam. There was also four different types of cake each, yes, FOUR. We had slices of classic Victoria sponge, the richest, most indulgent chocolate brownie, bake well tart and an incredible sticky toffee cake. All of the cakes are home made at The Secret Pantry and all of the food was divine, we couldn’t fault a single thing!

I was very impressed to read that The Secret Pantry use as much local ingredients as possible, they had a whole list of local suppliers that they use up on the wall which I think is so lovely. I’m all for supporting local businesses where possible so I thought that was a really nice touch.

We didn’t need one but I did notice that there were high chairs available, they also had a very reasonable children’s menu as well as plastic cups for little ones. There was also a changing mat in the toilets which is always handy too.

Overall we had a lovely time and enjoyed one of the best Afternoon Tea’s I have ever eaten! If you are local to Tenterden I would highly recommend popping in. We’ll definitely be paying The Secret Pantry a visit again very soon.

You can follow The Secret Pantry on FacebookTwitter or see their website for more information.
