    My Second Trimester Essentials

My second trimester has absolutely flown by. And I am now very quickly hurtling towards the third and final trimester of my second pregnancy. I (stupidly) fully expected that upon entering the second trimester my energy levels would return. And that I may even have be blessed with that wonderful pregnancy glow everyone talks about. Let me tell you… It’s all lies. Well for me anyway! I have been utterly EXHAUSTED these last few months, probably even more so than in the first trimester. There’s been no glow over here, just lots of dark circles under my tired eyes that even a stupid amount of concealer struggles to hide.

I thought I would share with you a few of the things that have made my second trimester a little easier along with a couple or things that I have just been really loving lately.

How To Grow A Baby & Push It Out Book By Clemmie Hooper

I pre ordered this book months ago and was so excited to read it as soon as it fell through my door the day it was released. It definitely didn’t disappoint! I read the whole thing cover to cover within a matter of days. Clemmie writes so honestly and tells it exactly how it is. Even though I’m expecting my second baby I still learnt a few new things!

    Sistema Water Bottle

Pregnancy always makes me super thirsty so I have been carrying my water bottle with me wherever I go lately. I try to drink a couple of these a day as I get very easily dehydrated which always causes me awful headaches.

    Lush Bubble Bars

I’ve been struggling with back ache a lot more during this pregnancy than my first. I have found warm bubble baths one of the only things that relieves it a little. So a long soak with some kind of lush bath goody is a must. The comforter & bright side bubble bars are my faaaaves.

    Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser

This is something I put on my Christmas list and Josh told me it was very hippy! But it has been wonderful and I use it all the time. I struggle to relax most of the time but by burning relaxing scents in my diffuser it really does help me to unwind. My favourite essential oil has to be pink grapefruit!

    Collection Concealer

Concealer is always a staple part of my make up routine but I have found myself reaching for it more than ever this pregnancy. I have got terrible dark circles and I have been having plenty of hormonal break outs lately too. This collection one is super cheap but does a wonderful job. I have been using it for years and recommend it to everyone!

    Secret Saviours Bump Band

I was sent this fab product a month or so ago along with the day gel and night cream. I have been absolutely loving using it so far! And it seems to be doing a wonderful job of keeping any new stretch marks at bay as well as keep my existing ones well hydrated! I’ll be sharing a full detailed review nearer the end of my pregnancy.

    Next Maternity Tights & Leggings

As much as I like to try and stay as stylish as possible whilst expecting I also think that being comfortable is way more important. I have been wearing my maternity tights all the time as they are so much more comfortable than jeans. Leggings are of course also a pregnancy must have. I mostly wear mine around the house or for if  I’m having a more casual day I will team them with shirts and converse or trainers.

    Snacks

I can’t seem to stomach big meals anymore so I’ve taken to eating little and often instead. These fibre one bars are great for popping in my handbag when I’m out about.

    Hypnobirthing App

I dabbled with a bit of hypnobirthing when I was expecting Bella but I have been trying (and failing!) to do it more regularly this time around. I tend to listen to the positive affirmations through headphones before I go to sleep. It relaxes me so much that I never seem to hear the end as I’m already asleep!

    Lip Balm

My lips have been super chapped lately which isn’t something I normally suffer with! I usually wear lipstick most days but it just looks awful when my lips are super dry. Instead I have been reaching for a tinted lip balm which keeps my lips moisturised but also gives a hint of colour!

    What were your pregnancy essentials?

    24 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

Of course I had every intention to keep up to date with sharing fortnightly updates but it seems that I am failing miserably! Life is just super busy lately which has meant that my poor blog has become a little neglected over the past few weeks sadly. I have so many half written posts, ideas and recipes that I really want to share but I suppose I am just struggling to find a balance at the moment. So this pregnancy update will cover how I have been getting on over the last month since my last one!

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    23 weeks + 5 days

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 23, baby is the size of a large mango.  Measuring about 28.9cm in length and he weighs around 1.1lb! Baby is now becoming more sensitive to sounds and will start to hear more distant sounds now such as a dog barking. His tiny heart is beating strong, and as blood is pumped around his body, his thin skin appears red.

We had our anomaly scan when I was 20+2 and baby is growing perfectly! All the measurements were as exactly as they should be. The sonographer even commented that baby was very symmetrical which apparently is quite rare but a good thing. Bella came with us and loved seeing her baby brother wiggle about on the screen. I can’t believe that all being well the next time will we see our baby boy is when he arrives in June.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I’m now up almost a stone since falling pregnant. I’m struggling a bit with this to be honest, after trying so hard to lose weight after having Bella, I’m finding it hard to swallow seeing the scales go up and up. I know that it is for all the right reasons but mentally I’m finding it hard. I normally eat relatively healthy but have found myself reaching for the biscuits ALOT lately so am considering re joining Slimming World to help keep me on track a bit better.

    SYMPTOMS?

The pelvic pain is still there but not quite so bad thankfully. I’ve been making a real effort not to lift things that are too heavy (Bella included) and to keep my knees together when getting out of bed and in and out of the car. I’ve also been trying to rest a little more and just not overdo it in general and I think this all seems to be helping!

My other main symptom is that I have become ridiculously clumsy over the last few weeks. I have managed to fall over quite badly on two separate occasions now. Once when leaving work and a week later I also slipped in our bedroom and went flying into our tile fireplace. Luckily both times I fell on my side rather than my bump and apart from a few bruises I seem to have got off lightly.

    MOVEMENT?

At my scan the sonographer confirmed that I have an anterior placenta this time which means it is laying at the front. This apparently can cushion babies movements a little which probably explains why I hadn’t been feeling much before 20 weeks. Although since reaching the half way mark, I have definitely been feeling baby move a lot more! Josh has managed to feel kicks from the outside too which has been lovely.

    STRETCHMARKS?

All of the stretch marks I got first time around are beginning to look a lot more stretched again sadly. I’m not sure if I have any new ones as I have so many from last time it’s kind of hard to tell!  I am super excited to be working with Secret Saviours as a brand ambassador throughout my pregnancy. I will be sharing more on the blog soon but I recently received my kit so I am hoping that will help keep any new stretch marks at bay!

    SLEEP?

I’m getting to the point where it feels like turning over in bed is a bit of a military operation. One that I seem to do a million times a night. I’m also still having strange dreams most nights too. Most days I wake up feeling like I’ve hardly slept!

    CRAVINGS?

Biscuits & sausage rolls. SO unhealthy and not things I’m particularly fussed about normally! I’ve obviously been trying to keep these things to a minimum but I have indulged a few times over the last few weeks which probably explains why the scales are creeping up a little quicker now! Oops.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Mostly just tired and impatient! I’m having to stop myself from just ordering everything we still need for baby boy in one go. Obviously we don’t NEED it all just yet and the sensible thing to do would be to spread the cost over the next few months but I’m getting impatient and just want everything done right.now. (yesterday).

    MISS ANYTHING?

My pre pregnancy wardrobe! I’m getting sick of maternity jeans already and everything else is fast becoming too small.

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?

I picked up a lovely grey jumper from Asda of all places recently which is perfect for my growing bump! I’ve been teaming it with jeans and heeled boots or leggings and converse for a more casual look.

    BEST MOMENT THIS MONTH?

It was lovely to see baby again at our 20 week scan. We’ve also had the Moses basket, pushchair and cot arrive in the last couple of weeks which has been super exciting. The children’s shared bedroom is all painted now too and we’ve built both of their beds. It just needs some accessories added to it!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Getting all the finishing touches done in the children’s new room. Dressing the room is definitely my favourite bit! I have ordered a few bespoke pieces from a couple of my favourite Insta shops and I can’t wait for them to arrive. I’m also looking forward to Spring properly arriving. I’m so over the miserable weather now and I’m desperate to be able to spend more time outside.

    Baby Number Two Wishlist

    copy-of-christmas-gift-ideas-for-her
Since finding out we were expecting again I have been slowly compiling a little wish list of things we would like to get for Baby Number Two. Today I am sharing my top picks with you. As you can quite clearly see, I am absolutely LOVING all the greys and yellows for this baby. This wish list is a combination of things we have already purchased ourselves, a couple of products from some amazing brands we are super excited to be working with and there are also a few bits we still hope to get over the next couple of months.

    Izziwotnot Moses Basket
We had a lovely looking Moses basket for Bella but she absolutely hated the thing and it was a real struggle to get her to sleep in it. I think the main problem was that it was a bit narrow and she was a bit chunky! This beautiful basket from Izziwotnot seems to a be a bit bigger and wider so hopefully baby boy will be super comfortable in it. We have actually gone for grey wicker and a grey stand and it is GORGEOUS.
I breastfed Bella for 11 months and I am hoping to be able to do the same for this baby too. I didn’t really need to express for Bella regularly but there was the odd occasion when it would have been handy if she had taken a bottle. I did use a manual breast pump a few times but with very little success sadly. This time my sister is very kindly lending me her Medela Swing electric pump which she got on really well with so hopefully I will too!
When I was expecting Bella the first blanket I bought for her was very similar to this one just pink. She still sleeps with it on her bed now and loves it so of course, I had to get one for baby boy too.
There are so many different baby nests on the market now and it is something I wish I had when Bella was small. As I said above, she wasn’t a fan of her moses basket at all. I remember rolling up cellular blankets and popping them around her to try and make her feel more snug and secure!! So a baby nest definitely seems like a much easier option and I have heard such wonderful things about them. This one from BabyDan looks fab and is supposed to last up until six months. It’s also a fraction of the cost compared with some of the other brands!
A car seat is of course a must. We had a Maxi Cosi one last time and loved it but we sold it on when Bella moved into her bigger one. We’re basically just repurchasing the same one as we still have the Isofix base for it.
The children’s shared bedroom is grey and white with pops of yellow and pink. This bright yellow change mat will be the perfect pop of colour!
We had a very floral version of this swing with Bella and it was an absolute lifesaver. Probably one of my favourite baby items we had for her in fact. It sings lullaby’s and has a timer that you can set so it swings for 15 minutes which FYI is the perfect amount of time to grab a quick shower and get yourself dressed!
You can never have too many Muslins, they are an essential baby product and can be used for pretty much anything! I plan on getting a few of these larger ones for swadding, to drape over the car seat/pushchair and to use as breastfeeding covers.
This time we needed to purchase a smaller cot for baby as we just didn’t have space to use Bella’s old cot bed as it’s quite large. So we have gone for this space saver grey cot from John Lewis which arrived yesterday so Josh will be assembling it at the weekend.
This gorgeous pushchair arrived last week and it is probably the thing I am most excited about using when baby arrives. I couldn’t resist setting it all up and I am so impressed with it. It seems really well made and looks like it will be very comfortable for baby too.
When Bella was small we used to use a white noise app on our iPad to help settle her which meant leaving it next to her moses basket or in her room for hours on end until the battery went flat normally! I stumbled across Whisbear which sounds like such a genius idea. It initially plays for 40 minutes until your baby is hopefully asleep but it also has a cry sensor so when baby starts to get upset it slowly comes back on for another 20 minutes to soothe baby back to sleep. Amaaaazing.
What are your baby must haves? I’d love to know!

*Some of the items mentioned in this post have been gifted to me free of charge as part of some upcoming brand collaborations I am working on although all opinions are honest and my own*

    20 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

20 weeks pregnant already!? Time is just flying by and I can’t believe I am already at the half way point! The last couple of weeks have been pretty hectic with getting the bedrooms organised ready to switch about. I’m also really pleased as I’ve made a good start on buying bits for our baby boy. I have picked up so many bargains in the January sales and I have started to make a list of all of the bigger items we’ll be needing to buy too. I never did get round to posting my 18 week update so this update will cover how I’ve been getting on since my last post at 16 weeks!

    HOW FAR ALONG?
    20 Weeks

    DUE DATE?
    14th June 2017

    GENDER?
    Boy!!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?
At week 20, baby is the size of a banana. Measuring about 25.6cm in length (this is now measured from head to toe rather than crown to runp!) and he weighs up to 10.6oz. Babies ears are now in their final position and stand out from his head. Apparently he also has little eyebrows starting to appear too! A whitish coat of a slick, fatty substance called vernix caseosa begins to cover your baby. It acts as a moisturiser and lubricant, helping to protect her delicate skin from drying out in the amniotic fluid.

Since my last update I have had my 16 week midwife appointment which wasn’t actually until just before I turned 18 weeks. Everything went perfectly which is always reassuring. She was more than happy with my blood test results, my urine sample and my blood pressure which is always such a relief too. I have my 20 week scan in a couple of days too which I’m looking forward too.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I lost the few lbs I gained over the festive period pretty quickly thankfully. Which means I am now up around 7lbs from my pre pregnancy weight which I am actually very pleased with. I piled on so much weight in my first pregnancy and I’m trying so hard to avoid this happening again.

    SYMPTOMS?
Pain. SO MUCH PAIN. I’m really suffering with awful pain in my pelvic and pubic bone area. It started a couple of weeks ago now and is showing no signs of easing up sadly. I’m thinking I may have to book in for some physio soon as I think it may be the start of PPGP (pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain). I am also still feeling super tired most of the time which is slightly annoying as I thought the second trimester was when you got all your energy back! Still waiting for that pregnancy glow over here!!

    MOVEMENT?
I am definitely feeling some movement now and I am super excited for those little kicks to get stronger. I was actually beginning to worry a little as I was sure I felt Bella move earlier than this. Baby boy only seems to move when I get into bed in the evenings, or at least that is the time I notice it the most! Feeling baby move is definitely one of my favourite parts of pregnancy and I’ve been really enjoying laying in bed each evening feeling him squirm about.

    STRETCHMARKS?
I think I have a few new ones on my boobs sadly or they could just be old ones that are more noticeable now as my poor boobs seem to just keep bloody growing!! I am trying really hard to be more consistent with applying my bio oil twice a day as I keep forgetting.

    SLEEP?
Sleep still isn’t great, I’ve been popping a small pillow under my bump at night to try and support it better but I still feel like I just toss and turn all night long. I have also been having the strangest dreams every night for the last couple of weeks which I suspect is probably hormone related!

    CRAVINGS?
I have been loving satsumas recently which I suppose isn’t a bad craving to have! Apart from that I seem to have a constant hankering for Japanese food and chicken katsu curry! I know where we are going for our date night next month 😉

    HOW I’M FEELING?
Apart from the pain, I’m feeling okay! I’ve felt a little overwhelmed at times lately. I am trying to get myself a bit more organised which is definitely helping me to stop stressing.

    MISS ANYTHING?
Walking without feeling like my pelvis might snap. Ouch.

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?
Josh bought me a gorgeous new grey coat for Christmas which I’ve been loving wearing. The buttons on it do just about do up at the moment! Although I tend to wear it open anyway so it should last me through these cold months which means I won’t need to buy a Maternity coat.  I also found my maternity leggings from last time which are super comfy, but they sadly have a hole in so I’ll need some new ones!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT MONTH?
There has been a fair few! Obviously hearing babies heartbeat at my midwife appointment was my favourite. It’s such a magical sound and it always makes me feel a little emotional too. But Josh and I also enjoyed a lovely spa break for his birthday a couple of weeks back which was just blissful. We have also made a start on shuffling our bedrooms around at home to make space for our baby boy’s arrival. Josh and I have moved into what was our guest bedroom, Bella and the baby will then be sharing our old bedroom and the room that Bella is in now will become a shared office for Josh and I!

We have also finally settled on a name for baby boy!!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Making a proper start on the children’s shared bedroom over the next couple of weeks and of course seeing baby again at our 20 week anomaly scan at the end of the week!

    16 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

The festive period really threw me off track with all things blog related and I am only just getting back into the swing of things which has meant that despite starting this update on time with all the best intentions to have it up between Christmas and New Year, by the time it finally goes live, I will actually be nearer to 18 weeks pregnant. Oops!

I turned 16 weeks on the 28th December and we luckily managed to book our private gender scan for the very same day. It’s safe to say that for this reason, week 16 is one I have definitely been looking forward to!

    HOW FAR ALONG?
    16 weeks & 5 days

    DUE DATE?
    14th June 2017

    GENDER?
Boy!! We find out a few days back and I think I’m finally starting to get my head around it. I’m so excited to have one of each.

    HOW’S BABY DOING?
At week 16, baby is the size of an avocado. Measuring about 11.6cm in length and weighing around 3.5 ounces. Over the next three weeks baby will go through a big growth spurt, more than doubling his weight! Babies grasp may now have developed enough for him to be able to hold his little hands together too which is just crazy!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
As expected, when I weighed myself after Christmas I was up a few extra lbs but I reckon this will probably come off again once I’m back on track with my healthy eating.

    SYMPTOMS?
I think I can finally say that I am over the sickness! Hallelujah! The festive period seemed to completely take it out of me though and I have been feeling so tired and run down. Hopefully once we are settled back into our usual routine I might perk up a bit again. Over the last couple of weeks my skin has been pretty bad, probably a combination of hormones and lack of healthy foods so again I’m hoping that will settle down soon now I’m eating cleaner again.

    MOVEMENT?
I’m not 100% but I think I may have felt those first little flutters in the last couple of days. I think by my next update I will have definitely felt baby move properly which I am so excited about.

    STRETCHMARKS?
I have so many stretchmarks from my first pregnancy and I really don’t want to add anymore so I have been smothering myself in bio oil every day (well, when I remember that is!).

    SLEEP?
Since my last update sleep has definitely taken a turn for the worse sadly. I feel like I just toss and turn all night long which means when I get up I still feel exhausted. I’ve also been super thirsty at night recently which has resulted in me having to get up to pee a couple of times a night which is super annoying.

    CRAVINGS?
PATE. One of the only things I actually avoid in pregnancy typically. I must admit I did cave and enjoyed a couple of pate crackers over Christmas (woops). I’ve also made Josh promise to make me pate on toast as my first meal post baby!

    HOW I’M FEELING?
Mentally I’m feeling great. I’m very excited to properly start baby preparations now we know what we are having and overall I’m in a really good place right now. But physically, I am bloody exhausted.

    MISS ANYTHING?
I did sort of miss having an alcoholic drink or too over the festive period, especially on our Christmas works do!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?
I’m all about dresses & maternity tights lately. I find tights so much more comfortable than maternity jeans and have been teaming them with stretchy dresses that can be dressed up or down. I’m also loving my new white leather converse I got for Christmas and can definitely seen them becoming a maternity wardrobe staple!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?
Finding out we are having a baby boy!!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Getting back to a bit of normality after the Christmas break. It feels so good to have my house back to normal now as the trees and the decorations were beginning to get on my nerves a little! We also have a spa break booked for the end of next week to celebrate Josh’s birthday which we are both really looking forward to.

A New Year & A New Adventure – Our Gender Reveal

We are super excited to announce that Baby Lee #2 is a BOY!!

    img_5185

We are still trying to get our heads around it to be honest but we are so so excited for this new adventure. We’re both absolutely over the moon and feel so very lucky that all being well, we will get to experience having one of each. Our lives have been full to the brim of all things girly for the last few years and I’m beyond excited to finally be able to venture into the world of baby boys! Despite requesting a baby sister Bella seems to also be thrilled about her new baby brother and I really do hope this continues. I can’t wait to finally give her a sibling, I know she’s going to be just wonderful (most of the time!).

Our gender scan was a couple of days ago and it was really nice to take a little break away from all of the Christmas madness. I woke up on Wednesday morning feeling so sick with a mixture of nerves and excitement, my heart was literally racing to the point I had to keep having a little sit down to try and relax. I’m sure Josh found it highly amusing but I honestly don’t ever remember feeling like this last time. I think I was just super eager to see our little baby again and to finally know whether we would be welcoming another girl or a boy.

Right from the beginning I had a feeling that I was expecting a boy this time as everything felt very different to my pregnancy with Bella. Although it seemed I was the only one as everyone else was insisting that we were having another girl. I even shared my 12 week scan photos on a Nub Theory board on Facebook and everyone guessed girl on there too. Just goes to show that you should never doubt a Mothers instinct eh!? 😉 We’ve been desperately trying to decide on a boys name and in the last 48 hours we seem to have whittled it down to our two favourites and I’m sure we will have come to a final decision within the next week or so.

I definitely feel like we are ending 2016 on such a high and I’m sure the New Year is going to be full of so many new adventures for us as we soak up our last few months as a family of three and prepare for our much anticipated baby boys arrival in June.

I’d also like to with you all a very Happy New Year! Thank you so much for following along our journey, I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you!
