Bella At Three & A Half

I feel like the blog has been very pregnancy orientated lately and therefore felt it was time I wrote a little update on our Bella Boo. The last time I wrote one of these updates was jut before her third birthday back at the end of October last year.

After reading it back, I can’t believe just how much she has grown up over the past six months. She is very much a little girl now and it feels like she’s pretty much left toddler hood behind. Apart from the tantrums of course. They are still very much present! The terrible twos stage honestly has nothing on the Threenager behaviour I have since witnessed. How someone so small can be so determined and headstrong is beyond me. I feel this trait definitely comes from Josh though rather than me!

For months Bella decided she wasn’t going to wear jeans or leggings anymore. Dresses/ skirts with tights only. At first I tried to fight this but quite honestly, the daily battles just weren’t worth it. The meltdowns it caused were pretty epic and so in the end we just went with it. Tights it was. Luckily over the last month or so she has got over it and been willing to wear jeans again although only when she wants to of course. But my goodness does this kid knows exactly what she wants. I’m sure this will take her far in life… (this is what I like to tell myself on tough days anyway!).

Tantrums aside, she really is the loveliest little girl. She is incredibly kind and very considerate of others. Her favourite past time is to play with her babies. She is utterly OBSESSED with them, especially ‘baby snow white’. Who I actually despise with a passion as I am made to drive around with her strapped into the passenger seat of my car on a regular basis. Usually when Bella isn’t even with me. I also spend a good chunk of my time poppering cloth nappies onto the bloody doll too. Sigh.

Bella still really enjoys going to both nursery and to her childminder. She is like a little sponge at the moment and is forever amazing me by telling me about all the new things she has learnt. She can count to twenty, knows the days of the week, all of the different colours and can sing the alphabet beautifully. Her favourite book is The Singing Mermaid and we have read it so many times that she can now recite the whole book back to us and does so every single night before bed!

Favourite foods include cereal, pancakes, pasta, pretty much anything with cheese on and most fruits. Although if given the option I am sure she would eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner 😉 Definitely gets that from me. Pretty sure she has had a huge growth spurt recently as she suddenly just seems so tall! And I’ve even been buying her summer dresses in age 4-5! Her beautiful curls are still clinging on for now although I imagine they won’t be around forever as they seem to have dropped a lot lately.

Over the last few months Bella has had her first trip to the cinema and performed in her first ever ballet show, both of which she loved! Still adores spending time outdoors, baking with Mama and doing crafty activities. But most of all she is just extremely excited about her baby brothers impending arrival. She is constantly talking about him, helping me to prepare his things and showering my bump with kisses and cuddles. I have a feeling she is going to make the most amazing big sister. She drives us absolutely crazy on a daily basis but we are so very proud of her and honestly couldn’t love her more! <3

    Bella’s Third Birthday

The last few days have been a complete whirlwind as we have been super busy celebrating Bella’s Third birthday! We kicked off the celebrations with her party which we held on the 5th, a few days before her actual birthday. With it being Guy Fawkes night we decided to have another fireworks party, especially as it was such a success last year.

The birthday girl had requested a pink sprinkles cake as she is obsessed with all things sprinkles so I used this as my inspiration for this years party theme. I chose the most gorgeous plates, napkins, straws and party boxes from Party Pieces which fit the sprinkles theme perfectly. I also got some amazing confetti filled balloons that received so many compliments at the party! I really enjoy hosting parties and one of my favourite bits is choosing all the decor and seeing it all come together on the day.

Once everyone had arrived, we served slow cooked pulled pork baps, hot dogs and hot potato wedges outside on the deck before doing sparklers and letting off some fantastic fireworks once it had got really dark. We also built a huge bonfire to help keep everyone toasty! I was so pleased with the fireworks we chose this year, they really lit up the whole garden and everyone absolutely loved them. Bella found them hilarious and didn’t stop giggling the whole time they were going off! We finished the evening off with birthday cake and Bella opened a few of her presents. She had such a lovely time surrounded by all her favourite people and came up to me a couple of times to thank me and tell me how much she was loving her party! It definitely made all the effort SO worth it.

Josh and I both booked Bella’s actual birthday off work and we have the loveliest day together. The morning was spent chilling at home in our PJ’s playing with all her new presents, watching Disney films and eating chocolate pancakes. We then went for a family swim in the afternoon before having a little birthday tea at home.

It’s been a chaotic few days but plenty of fun too. Our girl is so loved by everyone and I feel extremely lucky to be her Mama. I’ll end this post with a few of my favourite photos from Bella’s third birthday celebrations!

    Bella at Almost Three

In just two short weeks Bella will be turning Three and I honestly can’t quite comprehend how we are here already. These last three years have absolutely flown by and without a doubt they have been the best years of my life. Although Motherhood is definitely a journey, one that I still don’t feel like I have properly sussed out. But I’m so grateful every single day for this girl of mine for making me a Mama. I thought it was about time I did a little update as we approach her Third birthday!

    Bella at Almost Three

Bella is definitely wise beyond her years, sometimes I forget shes still so small as she just knows & understands so much these days. Our conversations on the way home from nursery are my absolute favourite, she tells me about her day in such detail & I so hope that never changes. The ‘Terrible Twos’ have been pretty testing at times, the older she gets, the more feisty she becomes and as much as I love that about her, it can be such hard work some days. Sass aside, she really does have such a kind heart & is so much fun, she is super cheeky & has the best sense of humour, she’s always making me laugh with her quirky little ways. She’s so eager to learn, to try new things & be as independent as absolutely possible lately but she still loves cuddles, although only on her terms of course! Always looking out for others & adores all things babies, I love to watch her as she plays with & Mothers her dolls, it’s honestly the cutest thing. The girl is a total performer –  forever singing & dancing wherever she goes. Ballet is definitely the highlight of her whole week! Completely princess obsessed & I’m pretty sure she believes she is a real life princess, sometimes only responding to ‘Elsa’. Sadly still doesn’t sleep very well & has recently taken to shouting out the most ridiculous things in her sleep in the early hours – ‘I want marshmallooooows’ at 2am was my personal fave 😉 Her favourite food is definitely pasta but she’s also quite partial to fruit, yogurts and baked beans too. Always happiest when outdoors adventuring or at home colouring or crafting.
For someone so small, she loves life so hard & I couldn’t be prouder of her! She might drive me up the wall some days, but I love her more than I could ever put into words <3

    The Ordinary Moments ’16 #14 & #15 | Big Girl Knickers

I feel like I’m so behind on these Ordinary Moments posts. I started drafting this post a good 10 days ago now and just haven’t found the time to finish it until now. The last couple of weeks have flown by if I’m honest and I still haven’t got over the fact we’re now in April! As cliche as it sounds, this year really is just flying by.

A couple of weeks back, on Good Friday (which seems forever ago now!) we began the dreaded task which was toilet training Bella! This wasn’t something we rushed into and it had actually been planned for quite a while as I had even booked some time off work, so I could have ten whole days off with Bella in order to give it my full attention.

Bella first started showing signs that she was ready last August when she was just 21 months old. She’d tell me she needed a wee and would run off to the toilet trying to remove her nappy! A couple of times I did pop her on the loo and to my surprise she did actually go but I still decided she wasn’t quite ready yet and tried to hold off at least until she was two!

We decided Easter would be a good time to finally start so Good Friday came around and we took off her nappy in the morning and let her choose her first pair of big girl knickers. This decision took her a while (toddler problems) but within about 10 minutes they were off again anyway 😉 We opted to go straight to using the normal toilet with a toddler training seat on and just skipped the potty all together.

I think on day one she had around 10 accidents (cue me panicking that she wasn’t ready yet!) although most of these were in the morning and by late afternoon we could already see she was getting the hang of it!

The next day she had just two accidents and on the third day only one. Day four was Easter Monday and our first day away from home as we were at my in laws for an Easter roast and egg hunt with all the family. I must have packed about seven changes of clothes as I was sure that there would be plenty of accidents as there was so much going on.

Well, I was wrong. Hurrah! Day four and no accidents what so ever. And in the last two weeks I think there has only been two or three!! So just like that, no more nappies. I’m so so glad we waited a bit longer until she was definitely ready. Josh and I both can’t quite believe how smoothly it’s gone and are ridiculously proud of our little love. I was honestly expecting it to be a complete and utter nightmare, I had heard such horror stories and I genuinely feared for my cream carpets future! 😉

Last week she returned to nursery for two days and was at my Mums for one and every time I collected her I was very pleased to see that she was still in the same clothes I dropped her off in.

As strange as it may sound, I almost feel a little sad about it all, as in a way we are saying goodbye to yet another part of her babyhood! Her little bottom looks so very grown up prancing around with teeny big girl knickers on and I just can’t believe we are here already! She’s growing up so fast and this seems like such a huge milestone. As much as I really don’t want to admit it, she isn’t a baby any more, and that makes my heart ache a little.

Bella at Two Years & Four Months

I had every intention of writing a little update on Bella around her Second birthday back in November but then the madness of Christmas got in the way and I never got around to it. So here it is, just a mere 3 months late. But better late than never, hey?

I’m sure I have mentioned before that Bella is a feisty little madam. The girl knows exactly what she wants and sometimes there is just no telling her otherwise. She gets this from her Daddy, who has the most incredible drive in life and I know she’ll follow in his footsteps. Although sometimes it can be very frustrating when she’s throwing an almighty tantrum in the middle of Sainsbury’s because I won’t let her have something she’s spotted (normally a kinder egg) but I try to just remind myself that determination is a good trait to have… whilst I make a quick dash to the checkouts with a whinging toddler in tow 😉

Bella At Two Years & Four Months

The sassiest little girl ever but also the kindest, I only have to sneeze and she’s asking me if I’m okay. It melts my heart every time. She is curious, smart & has the best imagination. She loves to play with her dolls house, dress up & cook in her play kitchen. Nothing makes our girl happier than a trip to the swings, she asks to go almost She absolutely adores her cousins. Has a mild obsession with Egg Surprises, whether that is watching those god awful videos on YouTube or getting her own kinder egg to open. Bella really enjoys going swimming, her two days a week at Nursery & her Friday morning Ballet class. Play Doh keeps her entertained for ages. Her best friend is definitely our dog, Ruby, although I’m not always sure the feeling is mutual. Recently found a new love for cuddles. Loves baking with Mama at the weekends. Her favourite film is definitely Frozen, Elsa & Anna are her heroes I’m sure. She loves to read books and do puzzles. She’s a chocolate fiend just like her Mama. Her favourite foods are pancakes, cheese and tomato sandwiches, fruit, pasta bolognese & chicken and spinach risotto. Always counting to 10. Happiest when exploring outdoors or dancing around the house like a crazy lunatic. Loves collecting the eggs from our chickens with Daddy. Forever singing along in the car, but hates it with a passion if Mama tries to join in too.
But most importantly of course, she is loved beyond measure and we wouldn’t change a single thing!

I’ll probably do Bella’s next update around her third birthday in November.
*Sob* This Mama is totally not okay that her baby will be turning three this year… Maybe it’s time for another one 😉

The Ordinary Moments ’16 #9 | Just The Two Of Us

Despite the fact I have Wednesdays and Fridays off from my office job to spend with Bella, because I also care for my Dad on those days it doesn’t often leave us with much time just the two of us. Most weeks we’ll also have some other plans in the diary too like seeing my sister and niece or catching up with friends. Which as lovely as that is, I felt we needed some alone time. So this week I made sure to keep Wednesday afternoon clear so we could spend some quality time just us.

I had planned to take Bella out for cake and to see the animals at our favourite garden centre but typically she fell asleep in the car so I headed home instead to let her sleep for a little while. We then played at home for a bit as she managed to find the princess dress we had bought her as an Easter treat (at the bottom of the stairs wasn’t Daddy’s best hiding place!!!) and she was so excited to put it on I didn’t have the heart to say no. She looked so sweet in it, despite the fact that the hoop in the skirt kept tripping her over 😉

After the little madam was finished dancing and twirling around the living room to Disney songs on YouTube I asked her what she’d like to do for the rest of the afternoon and she chose to go to the swings so that is exactly what we did. Despite the bright sunshine and beautiful blue skies it was still bitterly cold but that didn’t stop us having a lovely time. I loved watching Bella excitedly run between the different pieces of equipment at the park and hearing her infectious giggle as I pushed her on the swings. She was having such a great time she really didn’t want to leave, despite her lips starting to turn blue!!

We both had such fun together and I’m going to make a conscious effort to set aside a whole morning or afternoon once a week to do something just the two of us. An activity that Bella will really enjoy and I can give her my undivided attention. It’s these Ordinary Moments that I cherish the most and sometimes wish we had more time for, but it makes me appreciate them so much more because it isn’t something we get to do every day. It won’t always be just the two of us, hopefully at some point we’ll be able to give Bella a sibling, so I want to ensure we make the most of our time together as a two and make some super special memories we can both treasure.
