    Before School Bucket List

I don’t know about you, but it feels like we are having the longest hottest summer EVER. But I realised the other day that it is now just five short weeks until our little Bella Boo starts primary school. And before I know it, the summer will be over. She is so excited. I however, am so emotional about the whole thing. But I’ll save that post for another day. We sat down together recently and were chatting about how quickly her start date was coming around and I suggested we write a little list of things we’d like to do together over the next few weeks. She loved this idea and had so many suggestions. So I thought I’d share a few things we plan to get up to along with a few photos I never got around to sharing from last Summer.

    MAKE OUR OWN ICE CREAM
Bella and I love baking together so we thought we’d give making our own ice cream a go. I have found some lovely recipes on Jane’s Patisserie which all look very straight forward and bloody delicious. The Oreo one is first on our list to try.

EAT FISH & CHIPS ON THE BEACH AND PADDLE IN THE SEA
This one is always a winner and I imagine we’ll no doubt do this one more than once too. We are super lucky to live fairly close to the coast so we may as well take full advantage, right?!

    PLANT SOME FLOWERS
This was one of Bella’s ideas. I am not green fingered in the slightest so this will be a nice one for her to do with Daddy. We’ve just finished renovating our garden so I think it will be lovely to plant some pots up with some new flowers.

    TOAST MARSHMALLOWS
As mentioned above, we have just done up our garden. It isn’t very big but I am so pleased with the lovely little space we have created. And very keen to make the most of it while the sunshine lasts. Bella’s been desperate to toast marshmallows for a while now, so I have promised she can stay up late one weekend and we’ll toast some together on the BBQ or over the fire pit (if/when we get one!).

SPEND A FEW DAYS IN NORFOLK
We have visited Josh’s Grandparents in Norfolk every August for the last few years and this is definitely a tradition we would like to keep up. Bella absolutely adores them both and is desperate to go up and visit again so we’re going to try and squeeze a short break in at some point!

    VISIT A NEW NATIONAL TRUST
We’ve been members for the national trust for a couple of years now but we always tend to stick to visiting the same few local ones. So we’re making it our mission to visit at least ONE new one before the Summer is out.

    GO FOR A PICNIC
Pretty self explanatory but we love a picnic, who doesn’t? We may even combine this one with our next National Trust visit.

    HAVE A SLEEPOVER
…At Nanny & Grandad’s for the children. And a hotel for Josh and I!! We’ve got a voucher for a little hotel spa break that we’ve been meaning to use for months so I’d love to finally go before Bella starts school.

    SUNFLOWER TRAIL
Last summer we visited this amazing sunflower trail local to us. It was so much fun and we’d love to go back again this year.

    FAMILY BIKE RIDE
Earlier in the month we enjoyed a few days in Center Parcs. If you’ve read my blog before, then you’ll already know we are big fans of Center Parcs. One of the things we always enjoy the most is renting bikes and cycling around the site. Every time we leave, we always talk about getting our own bikes so we can go for family bike rides at home too. Bella has recently got her own bike and absolutely loves riding it. So we’ve decided that Josh and I will finally get our own bikes too along with a little toddler seat for Hugo. When we do this, I’m note sure but maybe we’ll just go somewhere we can rent them for a day at some point. Either way a family bike ride is definitely on the agenda this summer.

    CINEMA & BREAKFAST DATE
And last but not least, I wanted to include one thing on the list that was JUST for Bella. A special treat just for her without her noisy baby brother around. She decided she’d like to go for pancakes and to the cinema together. And that sounded pretty damn good to me! So hopefully we can get a sitter to watch Hugo for a few hours so that Josh and I can both take Bella out for the morning.

    Our 2017 Bucket List

If you are a regular reader you will know just how much I LOVE a bucket list. Its something Josh and I have always done since right back at the start of our relationship. We used to sit down together at the end of December and make a big list of all the things we wanted to do, places we wanted to visit and goals we wanted to achieve. I just love the feeling of ticking things off throughout the year! Since becoming parents our yearly bucket lists have changed somewhat but it’s still something I really love doing.

Over the last couple of years rather than writing a yearly list, I have opted for seasonal ones instead. But with our new arrival due in the Summer I thought I’d compile an annual one for 2017. Once I started writing it all down I realised there was A LOT that I’d like to do this year. There are of course some things we hope to do before baby boy’s arrival in June. Although there is still plenty on the list that I’d love to do once he’s joined us too, it’s maybe a little ambitious but we’ll see how we get on!

    Our Autumn Bucket List

If you’re a regular reader you will know just how much I love a seasonal bucket list. The last one I shared was our Spring Bucket List which you can read here. I never got around to sharing a Summer one but to be honest we were still ticking things off our Spring one throughout the Summer months too 😉

Autumn is my all time favourite season and I start counting down to it from the end of August much to most peoples horror! I’m all about the cosy evenings by the fire and chilly autumnal walks with my favourites. I wrote this post last year sharing my favourite ten things about Autumn.  So to share my excitement about tomorrow officially being the first day of Autumn I thought I’d share a few of the fun things we’re planning on getting up to throughout the Autumn months this year!

    • Apple Picking. I’m planning on actually picking the apples from our apple trees in the garden this year rather than letting them fall to the ground and rot like last year (oops) and whip up some of our favourite apple recipes! I’ll be sharing these on the blog no doubt too!
    • Family Bike Ride. We don’t actually own bikes ourselves although I would love to get some but there are a couple of places local to us that you can rent them from for a few hours so I’d love to try and do this and take a picnic and a flask of hot chocolate on a weekend before it gets too chilly!
    • Pumpkin Patch. This has become a bit of a tradition for us now, we’ve been the last two years and always have such fun picking out a few pumpkins to take home with us. I may even attempt a pumpkin recipe this year too.
    • Bonfire Night. Last year was Bella’s first firework display and she absolutely loved it and I reckon she’ll enjoy it even more this year now she’s that bit older so we’ll try and squeeze in a couple.
    • Birthdays. Bella and I are both have November birthdays so there will be lots of birthday celebrations in our house. Plans are already underway for Bella’s third birthday and I can’t wait to share them all with you!
    • First Cinema Trip. I’ve been thinking about taking Bella to the cinema for a while now but figured she probably wasn’t quite old enough. But I’m thinking it might be a fun thing to do together as a family as part of her third birthday celebrations.
    • Center Parcs. At the end of November we are heading to Center Parcs with my family for a little woodland break and I’m so so excited. I think it will be lovely to have a little down time befor the madness of Christmas hits and the fact that they have their winter wonderland on when we go will no doubt help us all get into the festive spirit!
    • Crafting. Bella absolutely adores all things crafty lately so I’d love to try and do some little projects with her incorporating some Autumn leaves and pine cones etc.
    • Slow Cooker. I can’t wait to dig my slow cooker out again and start making lots of hearty stews, soups and casseroles. I’m going to try to use it at least once a week and I’d really like to give some new more adventurous slow cooker recipes a go too!
    • Stick Man Trail. On my Spring bucket list I said that we wanted to complete the Gruffalo trail but we never did get around to it so I am determined to take Bella to do the stick man trail at some point this Autumn!

    Our Spring Bucket List

Summer officially begins at the beginning of June which is also when we jet off to Greece for a week in the sun! Bliss. It fiiiinally feels like Spring has sprung here in Sussex, well if you ignore the odd rainy days, that is 😉 The daffodils are out in full bloom, the sun has made an appearance quite a few times lately and I am just itching to dig out my summer sandals!

In a similar style to my Festive Bucket list I thought I’d share with you a few of the things that we are hoping to do before Summer properly kicks off in just a few weeks time!

    • Find some local Bluebells & take some family photos
    • Go Strawberry picking & bake a batch of our favourite strawberry cupcakes
    • Host our first BBQ of the year
    • Visit a National Trust place that we haven’t been to before & take a picnic
    • Complete the Gruffalo trail at Bedgebury
    • Take Bella swimming
    • Plant some vegetable seeds in the garden
    • Visit Josh’s Grandparents in Norfolk
    • Explore our own village more
    • Go for an evening trip to the beach for fish & chips and a walk – This is one of our favourite things to do on a warm evening!
    • Decorate our spare bedroom – unlikely to happen before Summer arrives, but a girl can dream, right?!
    • Spend a day at the Zoo – Bella has never been before but I’m sure she will absolutely love it!
    • Celebrate our THREE year Wedding Anniversary!!

What are your favourite things to do at this time of year? Here’s a couple of my favourite photos of Bella from last Spring!!

    Our Festive Bucket List

    festive bucket list

I love a list. Especially a bucket list. My husband and I write one together at the beginning of every year and have done since we first got together when we were 14! I get serious satisfaction about crossing something off my list. As it’s officially December now I thought I would share a few festive things we are hoping to do over the upcoming festive period!

    • Kick off December by choosing our Christmas tree & spend the afternoon decorating it while listening to cheesy Christmas music
    • Go to a couple of local Christmas markets
    • Bake & decorate gingerbread biscuits with Bella
    • Have a festive hot chocolate from Starbucks or Costa…or both 😉
    • Take Bella to visit Santa. This will actually be her first time as we felt she was too young the last two years
    • Go for an evening trip to see the Christmas lights. The houses in the village my husband grew up in go all out at Christmas on the lights front and it’s definitely worth a visit
    • Have our friends over for a cheese board evening and to play board games. We have a Christmas meal at ours together every year and it’s the perfect chance to catch up & exchange gifts!
    • Lots of walks in the crisp December fresh air & possibly a family trip to the farm
    • Make salt dough ornaments with Bella
    • Take lots of festive photos on my new camera
    • Spend a whole day in our Pyjamas watching Christmas films (and pigging out on Christmas treats no doubt!)
    • Have a candle lit picnic by the Christmas tree
    • Make home baked Christmas gifts for friends & family. I make the most incredible chocolate orange brownies every year and last year Josh made some tomato chutney. This year I’m going to try some new recipes too including some rather tasty looking Oreo truffles I found on Pinterest!
    • Spend Christmas Day at the in laws with Josh’s family. I’m so excited for this! Especially as it means Bella gets to spend the day with her cousins which she will absolutely love!
    • Host Boxing Day Lunch for my family. Josh is already talking about doing three different meats with ALLLL the trimmings. Lord help my waistline.
    • Make Turkey flan with leftovers. It’s honestly amaaaazing. But then again anything with cheese pastry gets a thumbs up from me 😉

What’s on your festive bucket list this year?

    Thanks for reading,
    Harriet xo
