    June Favourites

When I first started blogging, one of my favourite posts to both read and write, were monthly favourites posts. But somewhere along the way I stopped writing them. So I thought I would try and bring them back as and when I feel like I have some things to share. I’ll probably try to keep it to 5-8 things each month and they’ll probably include a bit of everything. So here is what I have been loving in June!

An Edited Life by Anna Newton
My wonderful Sister In Law bought me this book as a gift shortly after my Dad died as she had read it and really enjoyed it. I put it away until I was feeling in a better head space. When we went to Cornwall I popped this book in my bag in the hope I would be able to make a start on it. Well once I started reading, I literally couldn’t put it down. I devoured half of it while away and came back feeling so motivated to get my shit together!! I have since finished it and started putting Anna’s tips into action. It gave me the push I needed to get more organised and I have already referred back to it numerous time! I’d definitely recommend it if you are looking to streamline your life.

Three Tier Cakes from Jane’s Patisserie
I made THREE of these amazing three tier cakes from Jane’s blog during June. Starting with a Biscoff one for my bestie, a dairy free victoria sponge for my niece and lastly a chocolate fudge cake for Hugo’s second birthday. They are surprisingly easy to made but look super impressive. And of course they taste bloody delicious. Definitely my new fave way of doing big cakes!

Super Facialist Vitamin C Cleansing Oil
My friend Charlotte Connoley is a facialist and recommended I tried a cleansing oil for my first cleanse as I was on the hunt for a new one. The one she had told me about had been discontinued so I ended up picking up this one by Super Facialist on a whim in the supermarket as it was on offer. But OH MY, it is so lovely. Feels super luxurious and literally melts my make up away. It leaves my skin feeling amazing and I will definitely be repurchasing.

    Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
I have been on the hunt for the ‘holy grail’ foundation for years now and I very rarely repurchase a foundation twice. But I picked up a sample of the Double Wear a while back and was very impressed. I have used this before a few years back but always found it a nightmare to get off my skin. So I ended up buying a full sized bottle and a pump and have been really enjoying using it again. It stays put all day and matches my skin tone beautifully. And really that’s all you can ask for!? I wear shade 1C1 Cool Bone.

    Black Aysmmetric Sandals
This is probably a bit of a boring one but I have been wearing these sandals EVERY DAMN DAY. They are so incredibly comfy and literally go with everything. I have received lots of compliments on them too! They are just £28 and are made from real leather. Definitely a summer staple for me!

    Gousto Meal Boxes
We recently started using Gousto for four meals a week and we are all loving it. It’s been a great way to get us out of the rutt we had fallen into. I tend to go for the 10 minute meals and it just takes out a lot of stress of meal planning and doing a big food shop. Plus the meals are DELICIOUS.

    Calm App
I’ve been using the Calm app consistently over the last few weeks before bed and I definitely find it helps me to drift off easier. Bella also loves the children’s sleep stories too. I’d like to try some of the other mindfulness sessions during the day at some point too.

    Netflix
And last but not least is Netflix. I am suuuuper late to the game with this one but I now don’t know how we ever lived without Netflix. So much so that we’re cancelling our Sky package. So far we have binge watched Queer Eye, Sex Education and have dabbled with a bit of Orange is the new black too. The film selection is also pretty good as is the kids bit!

And I think that covers most of the things I have been enjoying over the last month or so! I imagine July’s favourites will probably include factor 50 sun cream, fans and cold G&Ts cos OHMYGAAAD it is hot lately!!

    Things I’m Loving Lately {February}

Oh February, as always you whizzed by. I know it’s the shortest month of the year but I honestly thought we had at least one more week left. It’s been a bit hectic here lately so I’m actually really looking forward to March. I always feel like the start of each month is sort of like a fresh start and I can’t help but feel a bit excited to see what’s in store for us over the coming few weeks. Here are a few things that I’ve been loving lately…

    Beauty

My top beauty item this month is without a doubt the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation which I raved about here. It’s amazing and I love it. If you haven’t already, you must try it.

    IMG_1140

I’ve been going to exercise classes twice a week since the beginning of the year and I’ve been loving using Invisi-bobbles to tie my hair back with. They are perfect for days that you have styled your hair and don’t want to ruin it with a hairband mark. I find them much more comfortable to wear too. I received mine in a Glossybox in the Autumn but you can pick them up here from boots and they are a steal at only £3.75 for 3.

    Fashion

I have been wearing my black faux leather jacket to death this month. It’s so easy to just throw on as I’m running out the door and it goes with most things. I’ve been layering it with roll neck jumpers a lot lately. But I think it’s a brilliant transitional piece for this time of year and as we go into spring I can see myself ditching the roll necks and wearing it over midi dresses teamed with sandals instead.

I loved this playsuit that I wore for the first time recently to my friends leaving party. I wore it with black tights, my favourite black tassel ankle boots and my leather jacket. I can’t wait to wear it sans tights when the weather warms up a bit.

Lastly, I couldn’t not mention these Adidas monochrome workout leggings that I am utterly obsessed with. I can’t find the exact ones online as I picked them up in the sale last year but these ones are pretty similar. They are a great fit and stay up well when doing a million sumo squats… Trust me, I’ve put them through their paces this month 😉 I just wish it was acceptable to wear them all the time!

    Home

I have been burning a lot of candles lately that it’s probably about time I replenished my stock soon with some more spring scented ones. I smelt the Yankee Candle in the scent ‘Jelly Beans’ the other day which I think is part of their Easter collection and it smelt divine! This month I’ve been really enjoying burning these M&S alphabet candles which I think look so stylish on our white shelves but also smell gorgeous too.

I also finally got around to using my lime and grapefruit Valentte soy wax candle which has quickly become my new favourite! I’d been putting off lighting it because I didn’t want to waste it. It smells utterly amazing and the scent payoff is insanely good, it really does fill the whole room. In my bid to make it last longer I have only been lighting it at weekends 😉 They are currently half price on the website so do check them out! The candle came in a set with a reed diffuser in the same scent which smells equally amazing.
    Food

I have been absolutely loving the Body Coach’s Lean In 15 recipe book this month, the recipes are so simple to follow, super tasty and good for you! A winning combination in my eyes. I included a couple of my favourites so far in my ‘What We Ate’ post which you can read here.

We haven’t eaten out much this month but did enjoy a gorgeous Japanese meal at Moshimo in Brighton which is one of our favourite places to eat. They do the best chicken katsu curry ever! If you are ever in Brighton, I’d definitely recommend paying them a visit.

What have you been loving this month?

    Thanks for reading

    Things I’m Loving Lately {December}

Oh December, you were hectic. Lovely of course, but definitely hectic. We had a wonderful Christmas spent with our nearest and dearest, promptly followed by us all falling ill and so we have spent the past few days having some much needed down time at home. Here’s a few things I have loved over the festive period!

    Beauty

During December my go to lip colour has definitely been my favourite Rimmel Kate lipstick in shade 01 – the perfect festive red!

I recently started using the L’oreal mythic oil and my hair is seriously so grateful! I use a couple of pumps on my hair when its wet and then another small pump when its dry and not only does it feel so much softer and smoother but it looks much shinier and healthier too. One of my favourite things about this hair oil is you can’t feel it in the hair at all and it doesn’t make it feel or look greasy like other (more expensive) oils I have previously used.

    Fashion

For my birthday at the end of November Josh bought me a gorgeous silver necklace from Stanley & Maud personalised with his and Bella’s initials. I have been after something personal like this for ages and I absolutely adore it! All of Stanley & Maud’s pieces are handmade my the lovely Dottie and I love supporting small business’ and have already got my eye on a few more of her pieces 😉

I recently bought my first ever roll neck jumper (late to the party I know!!) I went for a dark mustard colour and have been wearing it non stop throughout December. My sister bought me a black one for Christmas too which I know I’ll get loads of wear out of also. I’ve been thinking about getting a pinafore dress to wear with them, something like this maybe, but I haven’t quite decided if I can pull it off yet.
I also had to mention this gorgeous little black dress I wore for my Christmas works do as I felt absolutely amazing in it. It was a steal at only £30 from Boohoo and I received so many compliments on it that evening!

    Home

December has been a crazy month for us with regards to home decor! We have re-decorated Bella’s bedroom, done a stupid amount of gloss painting (I’m talking almost every bloody door / door frame / skirting board in the house. FML.) and finished off lots of odds and ends of decorating all ready for when our new carpets were laid a couple of weeks ago. We are so pleased we made the decision to ditch some of the laminate flooring and get some carpets down. It’s made the whole house feel so much cosier and homely.

I purchased a gorgeous hand illustrated print by Grace Leaney for Josh as one of his Christmas presents and I’m so so pleased with it. I put it in a grey IKEA frame and we have hung it in our hallway as the grey matches our geo print wallpaper perfectly.

Since we had built in shelves put in our living room I have been really enjoying styling them with various candles, books and baskets. The most recent thing I have added is this light up copper ‘L’. It’s quite a statement piece but I love how it looks along side the other bits and bobs. I’m not quite finished with styling these shelves just yet but I’m not sure I’ll ever be as I enjoy switching things around too much 😉

    Food

December is my favourite month of the whole year for food for obvious reasons. Christmas dinner was definitely a highlight but I always equally enjoy bubble and squeak on boxing day with all the leftover cold meats and cheeses. We also always make the Delia Smith Turkey & Leek flan with leftovers and it’s SO tasty.

I also made this crunchie cheesecake for boxing day which was seriously good even if it did take me two attempts on Christmas eve as the first batch bloody curdled which may have resulted in a minor meltdown from me and I miiiiiighttt have told my Husband I was cancelling Christmas hahaha. Dramatic? Me? Never… 😉

What have you been loving in December? I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas too!

    Thanks for reading!

    Things I’m Loving Lately {November}

November was wonderfully busy for us but as always it flew by so fast. Since becoming a parent I just can’t believe how quickly the months pass. There has been lots of celebrating this month, stacks of good food & plenty of family fun. Here is what I’ve been loving lately.

    Beauty
I was super lucky and managed to get my hands on one of the limited edition NARS Glossybox’s that sold out in something crazy like 27 minutes!? I have been really enjoying using all five of the products I received but my favourite would have to be The Blush in ‘Orgasm’. It is the perfect colour for my skin tone and gives me that natural rosy cheeked glow. It’s very highly pigmented so a little bit goes a long way which means it should last me ages.

    IMG_0270

Unfortunately I was struck down with the dreaded winter cold this month which gave me terribly dry lips so I’ve been smothering them in my Lanolips multipurpose balm which has been amazing. I have also used it around my nose as I tend to get little dry patches at this time of year especially when I’m unwell and it worked wonders for that too.

    DSC_0908

    Fashion
During November I have been living in various shirt/swing/jumper dresses paired with black tights and boots. My new favourite is this long sleeved striped bodycon midi dress that I bought a couple of months back from Forever21 which was a complete steal at just £8! As its very fitted I had been subconsciously avoiding wearing it I think but I finally dug it out and was pleasantly surprised that it now fits much better since I have lost some more weight (thanks to Slimming World) and I actually felt quite confident wearing it. I’ve since ordered two more in different colours thanks to Black Friday 😉

I picked up some black super high waisted jeans from Primark when I went shopping for my birthday as I had seen loads of people raving about them and for £10 I thought I’d give them a try. They are so comfy and such a good fit that I wish I’d got a few pairs. I love high waisted jeans as they hide a multitude of sins and they always make me feel more confident.

    Home
I have a new obsession with fairy lights and I’m having to restrain myself from putting them in every.single.room. I just love how cosy they make a room feel. Battery powered fairy lights are bloody genius and I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get some! Without the need for them to be plugged in you can literally put them anywhere. I currently have some simple white ones along the mantelpiece in the dining room and some gorgeous LED glass globe ones on copper wire along the living room mantel. I also have some retro bulb ones in our bedroom and I plan to add some simple white ones to Bella’s bedroom too when we decorate it. I think the fairy lights may be the start of my festive decorations.. Eeeeek.

    IMG_0226

We have finally ordered our carpets and are booked in to get them fitted 10 days before Christmas. Nothing like leaving it until last minute 😉 We currently have no carpets anywhere in the house as we have laminate downstairs and bare floorboards upstairs so I’m pretty excited for some cosy carpets to be laid! What I’m not so thrilled about is the fact that before they are laid we have to pull up the existing laminate downstairs and do loads of glossing woodwork. Urgh. As well as finishing painting and wallpapering the upstairs landing. Ohhhhh and re decorating Bella’s bedroom. We don’t do things by halves.. Aka we are nuts.

    Food
November has been filled with amazing food as Bella and I both celebrated our birthdays! Josh and I visited the BBC Good Food Show in London with his parents as part of my birthday celebrations and we tasted some of the most incredible food but one of the highlights was a pork & sage sausage roll from Little Jack Horners. Probably the best sausage roll I have ever eaten. It really was THAT good.

We enjoyed a beautiful child free meal and overnight stay at The Vineyard in Lamberhurst for my birthday which I’ll probably share more details on in a separate post. The Vineyard is part of the same group as The Great House which is one of our all time favourite places to eat so we knew it would be lovely!

Despite the many treats this month I am still following Slimming World (Finally got my half stone award!) and my favourite SW friendly meal this month would have to be my pork and apple burgers that I shared earlier in the month. I think we must have had them at least two or three times as we all enjoy them so much.

    Things I’m Loving Lately {October}

Well I thought September whizzed by, but it seems October has done the same! I can’t believe we are now over a week into November (I am fully aware this is a few days later than it should be, apologies!!) It is mine and Bella’s birthday month so it will no doubt be just as crazy. Who wants a quiet life anywaaaay 😉 Here’s a few of the things we have been loving in my first ever ‘Things I’m Loving Lately’ linking up with Emma over at www.lifeatthelittlewood.co.uk

    Beauty
I received this Talika moisturiser in my October Glossybox and have been using it every day as my base under my make up. I have really noticed that my foundation applies much better on top of this and lasts all day. It suits my oily skin perfectly as its more of a gel consistency, so it doesn’t make my skin feel greasy at all. I’m so impressed with it I may even repurchase when it runs out.

Over the past month or so I have been wearing more gold/bronzey eye make up and have rekindled my love for Mac’s ‘Woodwinked’ eye shadow. I have had this eyeshadow for a while and I always seem to dig it out around this time of year. It’s such a pretty colour and is so pigmented therefore a little goes a long way.  I have been either wearing this on its own if I’m pushed for time, by applying it all over the lid with a fluffy real techniques eyeshadow brush or using it with a paler nude on the inner lid and darker brown through the crease.

    Fashion
If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed that I have been loving wearing my faux fur gilet! It’s definitely become my favourite Autumn staple in my wardrobe. It’s such a versatile piece and keeps me nice and cosy when I don’t want to wear a proper coat. It took me ages to find the ‘perfect’ one. I even bought a different one then returned it as it wasn’t very soft and just wasn’t what I was looking for. Bella also has a very similar one too and sometime we may accidentally on purpose wear them out at the same time 😉

I have also been absolutely loving these tan Chelsea boots I picked up for Bella a few weeks ago. I know lots of other little girls that have them and they are just so cute, I’d actually love a pair in my size 😉 Bella literally wears them every day as they go with everything!

    Home
We have been having a couple of little home makeovers over the last couple of weeks which I’ll be sharing more on soon… once I get round to taking some decent photos 😉 But I did share a picture on my Instagram of our new feature wallpaper in the hallway. Isn’t it gorgeous!?

    Food
I recently discovered Quark and I’m now obsessed. I’m following Slimming World and I’d seen lots of other people using this fat free soft cheese as a dessert alternative mixed with an options hot chocolate sachet. I was dubious at first but it’s actually really tasty! I have mine with lots of fresh strawberries and it really curbs my chocolate cravings of an evening. I’m yet to try it in savoury dishes but I hear it makes a lovely creamy sauce for pasta!

I’d love to know what you have been loving throughout October!

    Thanks for reading

    September Favourites

Well I think I must have blinked and just missed the whole of September!! It seriously went so quickly, probably because we were on holiday for a week of it I suppose. Anyway, here are a few things we have been loving throughout September.

    Mama’s Favourites

My Kindle. I love reading but since having Bella I rarely find the time. So while Bella was in crèche for a couple of hours a day while we were on holiday, I spent most of the time reading on my kindle with a cocktail in hand. Heaven.

I picked up this Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion from Sainsbury’s when I was picking up the rest of our holiday toiletries and I’m really impressed. It soaks into the skin quickly and leaves my skin feeling amazing. I also love the smell, I’m obsessed with anything coconut scented so this is right up my street.

Now it is officially Autumn (yay!!!) I have been loving swapping my sandals back to my boots. I end up wearing them most days at this time of year. My current favourites are these ones from Forever21 which I have in both black and tan because I love them that much and they basically go with everything 😉 I especially love to team them with dresses and tights or ripped skinny jeans. As much as I love these boots I am also currently on the hunt for some new flat leather ankle boots in tan and some black Chelsea boots for more casual days.

In my last favourites post I mentioned how much I was loving my Rimmel Kate lipstick in shade 38, this month I also purchased shade 03 to add to my collection which is a deep berry red. It’s perfect for Autumn and I think I will be wearing it a lot over the next couple of months! These lipsticks are my absolute faves and are currently on buy one get the second half price in Boots so no doubt I’ll end up picking up a couple more before that offer ends 😉

     Bella’s Favourites

I grabbed a box of these Ella’s Kitchen Fruit Pouches as they were on offer and I remember reading a post a while ago by the lovely Alice who blogs over at Alice & Amelia | New Young Mum and she said how her daughter Amelia really enjoys them as a snack and Bella has been loving them too, they are so handy and I think its great that you can pop the lid back on them and they keep in the fridge for up to 48 hours. I have also been adding a generous squirt into Bella’s morning porridge after they are cooked then I either pop the rest in the fridge for the next day or if she spots it she’ll have the rest while her porridge cools down.

When I had Bella my Mum dug out some of my old books that she had kept including lots of the Beatrix Potter collection. Bella is currently loving them. She seems to carry one at all times and is forever demanding I read her a ‘boooooooookkkkk’. I was quite shocked at actually how brutal some of the stories are so I may or may not skip some of the not so nice pages to save her little ears 😉

While we were in Ibiza our holiday must have for Bella would have to be the Speedo Swim Jacket. This gave us peace of mind that she was safer in the water with this on. Luckily she doesn’t mind wearing it, although she can unzip it and remove it herself but she didn’t ever do this in the water thankfully.

This month has been crazy busy and flown by too fast for my liking so I’m determined to make the most of October and for it to be a bit more relaxed. I can’t wait to get started on ticking things off our Autumn Bucket List which I’ll be sharing on the blog in my next post!!

    Thanks so much for reading
