    Things I’m Loving Lately {December}

Oh December, you were hectic. Lovely of course, but definitely hectic. We had a wonderful Christmas spent with our nearest and dearest, promptly followed by us all falling ill and so we have spent the past few days having some much needed down time at home. Here’s a few things I have loved over the festive period!

    Beauty

During December my go to lip colour has definitely been my favourite Rimmel Kate lipstick in shade 01 – the perfect festive red!

I recently started using the L’oreal mythic oil and my hair is seriously so grateful! I use a couple of pumps on my hair when its wet and then another small pump when its dry and not only does it feel so much softer and smoother but it looks much shinier and healthier too. One of my favourite things about this hair oil is you can’t feel it in the hair at all and it doesn’t make it feel or look greasy like other (more expensive) oils I have previously used.

    Fashion

For my birthday at the end of November Josh bought me a gorgeous silver necklace from Stanley & Maud personalised with his and Bella’s initials. I have been after something personal like this for ages and I absolutely adore it! All of Stanley & Maud’s pieces are handmade my the lovely Dottie and I love supporting small business’ and have already got my eye on a few more of her pieces 😉

I recently bought my first ever roll neck jumper (late to the party I know!!) I went for a dark mustard colour and have been wearing it non stop throughout December. My sister bought me a black one for Christmas too which I know I’ll get loads of wear out of also. I’ve been thinking about getting a pinafore dress to wear with them, something like this maybe, but I haven’t quite decided if I can pull it off yet.
I also had to mention this gorgeous little black dress I wore for my Christmas works do as I felt absolutely amazing in it. It was a steal at only £30 from Boohoo and I received so many compliments on it that evening!

    Home

December has been a crazy month for us with regards to home decor! We have re-decorated Bella’s bedroom, done a stupid amount of gloss painting (I’m talking almost every bloody door / door frame / skirting board in the house. FML.) and finished off lots of odds and ends of decorating all ready for when our new carpets were laid a couple of weeks ago. We are so pleased we made the decision to ditch some of the laminate flooring and get some carpets down. It’s made the whole house feel so much cosier and homely.

I purchased a gorgeous hand illustrated print by Grace Leaney for Josh as one of his Christmas presents and I’m so so pleased with it. I put it in a grey IKEA frame and we have hung it in our hallway as the grey matches our geo print wallpaper perfectly.

Since we had built in shelves put in our living room I have been really enjoying styling them with various candles, books and baskets. The most recent thing I have added is this light up copper ‘L’. It’s quite a statement piece but I love how it looks along side the other bits and bobs. I’m not quite finished with styling these shelves just yet but I’m not sure I’ll ever be as I enjoy switching things around too much 😉

    Food

December is my favourite month of the whole year for food for obvious reasons. Christmas dinner was definitely a highlight but I always equally enjoy bubble and squeak on boxing day with all the leftover cold meats and cheeses. We also always make the Delia Smith Turkey & Leek flan with leftovers and it’s SO tasty.

I also made this crunchie cheesecake for boxing day which was seriously good even if it did take me two attempts on Christmas eve as the first batch bloody curdled which may have resulted in a minor meltdown from me and I miiiiiighttt have told my Husband I was cancelling Christmas hahaha. Dramatic? Me? Never… 😉

What have you been loving in December? I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas too!

    Thanks for reading!

    Oh, Christmas Tree

We have such a busy schedule most of the time that we decided weeks back that this would be the weekend we would set aside to go and choose our Christmas tree, decorate the house and just generally get ourselves into the festive spirit! We decided last minute to go with my sister, her husband and my new niece who’s only 5 weeks old to choose our trees and we ended up going for breakfast first with my Dad too.

When I was younger we always had a fake tree but when I met Josh his family always had a real one and I was very quickly converted to real Christmas trees. You just can’t beat the smell of a real tree when you come downstairs on a chilly December morning. Since Bella was born we have bought our tree from the same local farm shop so we headed back there for the third year in a row (how is this her THIRD christmas already!?.. Sob). I think subconsciously I insist we always go there for sentimental reasons. It’s sort of become a little tradition of ours I suppose.

After we chose our tree we headed home for the afternoon to decorate it whilst listening to some classic cheesy christmas songs on Youtube and we even cracked open the tub of christmas chocolates which was definitely the highlight for Bella 😉

Here’s a few of my favourite snaps from our first festive family day of the season!

    Weekend Mini Style #2

Today we ticked the first thing off our Festive Bucket List by getting our Christmas Tree! Bella and I both wore our Christmas jumpers for the first time this season (Daddy’s apparently didn’t go with his outfit?!) and I may have text my sister to make sure her family wore theirs too and by chance my Dad had joined in also. So yes, we were that family that went out for breakfast together all wearing matching christmas jumpers 😉 (Apart from Josh.. boo him)

Jumper – Primark | Denim Skirt – Marks & Spencer | Fairisle Tights – Sainsburys | Chelsea Boots – Next

I picked up this reindeer jumper from Primark a couple of weeks back and it’s much thicker than I expected and was a bargain at only £7. The nose is actually 3D which Bella was very impressed with and I even managed to match her hair bow with the polka dot one on the jumper 😉 My favourite bit is definitely the red heart elbow patches! I just love an elbow patch.

I teamed the jumper with a denim skirt, festive tights and chelsea boots but I think it would look equally cute with skinny jeans or even red leggings.

    Our Festive Bucket List

    festive bucket list

I love a list. Especially a bucket list. My husband and I write one together at the beginning of every year and have done since we first got together when we were 14! I get serious satisfaction about crossing something off my list. As it’s officially December now I thought I would share a few festive things we are hoping to do over the upcoming festive period!

    • Kick off December by choosing our Christmas tree & spend the afternoon decorating it while listening to cheesy Christmas music
    • Go to a couple of local Christmas markets
    • Bake & decorate gingerbread biscuits with Bella
    • Have a festive hot chocolate from Starbucks or Costa…or both 😉
    • Take Bella to visit Santa. This will actually be her first time as we felt she was too young the last two years
    • Go for an evening trip to see the Christmas lights. The houses in the village my husband grew up in go all out at Christmas on the lights front and it’s definitely worth a visit
    • Have our friends over for a cheese board evening and to play board games. We have a Christmas meal at ours together every year and it’s the perfect chance to catch up & exchange gifts!
    • Lots of walks in the crisp December fresh air & possibly a family trip to the farm
    • Make salt dough ornaments with Bella
    • Take lots of festive photos on my new camera
    • Spend a whole day in our Pyjamas watching Christmas films (and pigging out on Christmas treats no doubt!)
    • Have a candle lit picnic by the Christmas tree
    • Make home baked Christmas gifts for friends & family. I make the most incredible chocolate orange brownies every year and last year Josh made some tomato chutney. This year I’m going to try some new recipes too including some rather tasty looking Oreo truffles I found on Pinterest!
    • Spend Christmas Day at the in laws with Josh’s family. I’m so excited for this! Especially as it means Bella gets to spend the day with her cousins which she will absolutely love!
    • Host Boxing Day Lunch for my family. Josh is already talking about doing three different meats with ALLLL the trimmings. Lord help my waistline.
    • Make Turkey flan with leftovers. It’s honestly amaaaazing. But then again anything with cheese pastry gets a thumbs up from me 😉

What’s on your festive bucket list this year?

    Thanks for reading,
    Harriet xo
