Dear Bella, Last Week You Started School!

    Dear Bella,

Last week was a big one for us all because you my darling girl, started primary school. We’ve had the 4th of September marked in the diary for months now. And it was the day you had been excitedly counting down to and the one I had been secretly dreading for so long.

It’s not because I wanted to hold you back or even that I wanted to keep you all to myself. It was mainly because I knew just how much I would miss you. And I think there was and still is a part of me that’s so scared that I will lose a part of you now. Five days a week is a lot of time to be away from one another. And I know I’m going to miss out on so much. I can only hope that you’ll be happy to fill me in at the end of your school day. Because i’ll be waiting in the playground Bella boo, ready to hear all about it.

We are now a whole week in and I already know that there really was no need to worry. You walked into school on that very first day (and every day since!) with such confidence. And seeing you so happy and excited meant that I even managed to hold back the tears. Because I knew in that moment, that you were going to be just fine. I no longer felt sad. Instead I was just excited for you and this new adventure that lies ahead.

You are so eager to learn and I’m confident you are going to do amazingly at school little one. You come running towards me at pick up time with your arms open wide, bursting with excitement to tell me all about your day. I know it has only been a week, but you already LOVE everything about school. You even asked if you could go at weekends on our walk home this afternoon! You’re soaking it all in like a little sponge and you come home each day filled with new information that you just can’t wait to share. On Friday you were even given ‘star of the week’ and seeing you clutching that certificate with the widest smile on your face, made me so incredibly proud.

There have been numerous times since you came along and made me a Mama, that I have wondered if I’m actually cut out for motherhood. I have often doubted my abilities as a parent. And I’ve cried so many tears (usually after a particularly difficult day). I have picked myself apart on all the things I felt I should have done better. But I have finally realised, that I think we’ve done just fine. You are healthy, you are happy and my goodness you are so loved Isabella. You’re such a special little girl and I really am very grateful that I get to be your Mama. Even on those difficult days.

Thank you for making this transition into school SO easy my darling girl. You are going to go on to do such wonderful things, I just know it. And I’ll be there with you, every step of the way.

    All my love, always.

    Before School Bucket List

I don’t know about you, but it feels like we are having the longest hottest summer EVER. But I realised the other day that it is now just five short weeks until our little Bella Boo starts primary school. And before I know it, the summer will be over. She isĀ so excited. I however, am so emotional about the whole thing. But I’ll save that post for another day. We sat down together recently and were chatting about how quickly her start date was coming around and I suggested we write a little list of things we’d like to do together over the next few weeks. She loved this idea and had so many suggestions. So I thought I’d share a few things we plan to get up to along with a few photos I never got around to sharing from last Summer.

    MAKE OUR OWN ICE CREAM
Bella and I love baking together so we thought we’d give making our own ice cream a go. I have found some lovely recipes on Jane’s Patisserie which all look very straight forward and bloody delicious. The Oreo one is first on our list to try.

EAT FISH & CHIPS ON THE BEACH AND PADDLE IN THE SEA
This one is always a winner and I imagine we’ll no doubt do this one more than once too. We are super lucky to live fairly close to the coast so we may as well take full advantage, right?!

    PLANT SOME FLOWERS
This was one of Bella’s ideas. I am not green fingered in the slightest so this will be a nice one for her to do with Daddy. We’ve just finished renovating our garden so I think it will be lovely to plant some pots up with some new flowers.

    TOAST MARSHMALLOWS
As mentioned above, we have just done up our garden. It isn’t very big but I am so pleased with the lovely little space we have created. And very keen to make the most of it while the sunshine lasts. Bella’s been desperate to toast marshmallows for a while now, so I have promised she can stay up late one weekend and we’ll toast some together on the BBQ or over the fire pit (if/when we get one!).

SPEND A FEW DAYS IN NORFOLK
We have visited Josh’s Grandparents in Norfolk every August for the last few years and this is definitely a tradition we would like to keep up. Bella absolutely adores them both and is desperate to go up and visit again so we’re going to try and squeeze a short break in at some point!

    VISIT A NEW NATIONAL TRUST
We’ve been members for the national trust for a couple of years now but we always tend to stick to visiting the same few local ones. So we’re making it our mission to visit at least ONE new one before the Summer is out.

    GO FOR A PICNIC
Pretty self explanatory but we love a picnic, who doesn’t? We may even combine this one with our next National Trust visit.

    HAVE A SLEEPOVER
…At Nanny & Grandad’s for the children. And a hotel for Josh and I!! We’ve got a voucher for a little hotel spa break that we’ve been meaning to use for months so I’d love to finally go before Bella starts school.

    SUNFLOWER TRAIL
Last summer we visited this amazing sunflower trail local to us. It was so much fun and we’d love to go back again this year.

    FAMILY BIKE RIDE
Earlier in the month we enjoyed a few days in Center Parcs. If you’ve read my blog before, then you’ll already know we are big fans of Center Parcs. One of the things we always enjoy the most is renting bikes and cycling around the site. Every time we leave, we always talk about getting our own bikes so we can go for family bike rides at home too. Bella has recently got her own bike and absolutely loves riding it. So we’ve decided that Josh and I will finally get our own bikes too along with a little toddler seat for Hugo. When we do this, I’m note sure but maybe we’ll just go somewhere we can rent them for a day at some point. Either way a family bike ride is definitely on the agenda this summer.

    CINEMA & BREAKFAST DATE
And last but not least, I wanted to include one thing on the list that was JUST for Bella. A special treat just for her without her noisy baby brother around. She decided she’d like to go for pancakes and to the cinema together. And that sounded pretty damn good to me! So hopefully we can get a sitter to watch Hugo for a few hours so that Josh and I can both take Bella out for the morning.
