    38 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

Could this potentially be my last ever pregnancy update? I am now 38 weeks pregnant! As of last week I am officially ‘full term’ and baby could arrive any day now. It’s been a busy couple of weeks with appointments and last minute preparations but I finally feel ready to meet our baby!

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    38 Weeks + 2 days

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 38 the average weight of a baby is about 6.8lbs! He is around 19.6 inches from crown to heel. Baby is about as long as a leek! The fine lanugo hair that covered our baby boy is now pretty much gone. Although he may still have some patches when he is born, particularly on his upper arms and shoulders.

I had my 36 week appointment about 10 days ago and my main concern was to see if baby was still in the breech position. My midwife said she wasn’t sure so she sent me up to the hospital to be scanned to confirm. Luckily baby had turned himself and I was so pleased to hear that he is now HEAD DOWN.

My midwife then came to our house the following day and did my home birth booking in appointment which was very exciting. I have also now confirmed and received the birthing pool. We’ve packed a box of other bits ready for the birth too, just things like towels, some old bedding and some waterproof shower curtains to protect any soft furnishings. The cupboards are stocked with snacks and plenty of biscuits for the midwives too. So I would say that we are officially ready to have a baby now! It’s now just a waiting game to see when he wants to arrive!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

    A LOT.

    SYMPTOMS?

I’m nesting like a complete crazy person at the moment. I just can’t stop myself cleaning and faffing. Physically, my pelvis and hips have been suuuuuper achey over the last week or so. This is probably because baby is now head down I suppose! Apart from that I’ve been feeling okay, just generally tired! I’ve also been having plenty of Braxton Hicks over the last fortnight too.

    MOVEMENT?

Lots of strong movements still and it’s getting pretty painful ‘down there’.

    STRETCHMARKS?

Definitely a few new ones appearing now above my belly button. Sob.

    SLEEP?

Sleep is horrific. I just can’t get comfortable now!

    CRAVINGS?

I’ve been trying to eat a little healthier the last couple of weeks and have been loving fresh strawberries and raspberries!

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Excited. Nervous. Impatient. Excited. Scared. Emotional. TIRED. Mainly excited though!!

    MISS ANYTHING?

    My energy levels! 😉

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Anything I can wear with leggings and sandals. Now I’m working from home, I’m all about comfort! I so can’t wait to be able to wear normal clothes again.

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Finding out baby is head down!! I’m so so relieved that I can (hopefully) still have my home birth.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Meeting our baby boy very soon!!

    36 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

Today I turn 36 weeks which I’m pretty sure means I am now officially nine months pregnant! Before I know it, my second pregnancy will all be over. And all being well, I’ll have a tiny (although probably not that tiny) baby boy in my arms. The excitement to meet our little bundle is definitely building. But so is the realisation that somehow he has to come out! And I’m beginning to doubt myself and my abilities. Must.stay.positive!

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    36 Weeks

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 36 baby boy weighs around 5.3lb and is about the same as a honeydew melon! It’s safe to say I am feeling HUGE.  He is around 18.2 inches from crown to heel. He will apparently gain about 28g a day over the next few weeks!

I actually had my 34 week appointment on the day I turned 35 weeks. On the days leading up to it I was so worried about baby still being in the transverse position and had spent hours googling all the risks involved. I’d got myself a bit worked up about it all. Only to get there and be told that he had moved from the transverse position… to bloody BREECH. Wonderful.

It’s now a waiting game until my next midwife appointment in a few days to see if he has moved by himself or not. If he is still breech I will be referred to the hospital for a scan to confirm his position. Then Ill need to see a consultant to discuss trying to turn him and what my options are. I feel so sad that I may not get my home birth but I’m trying not to worry too much until we know more after my next appointment. In the mean time I have been spending every evening bouncing away on my ball in the hope of giving him a helping hand to turn around. Fingers crossed!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

Feels like I have put on about 10 stone. Probably more like 3 but still, I feel HUGE.

    SYMPTOMS?

Breathlessness and acid re-flux/heartburn are kicking my arse at the moment. I’ve also noticed that if I have had a busy day (pretty much every day) that my feet are a little swollen by the end of the day too. I said to Josh a couple of days back that I feel like I’ve hit a wall and I suddenly just feel so exhausted and heavy now.

    MOVEMENT?

I don’t know if it’s because of the fact he’s breech or he’s just running out of room but babies movements have become extremely strong and very uncomfortable over the last couple of weeks! It feels like he’s trying to break free most of the time.

    STRETCHMARKS?

I’m sure there are going to be some new ones appear during these last few weeks as everything feels SO stretched. I have taken to slathering myself with body butter every day to try and keep any new ones to a minimum. Also still wearing my secret saviours band when I remember!

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been better lately. I’m normally up once in the night to take Bella down to the toilet and to pee myself but apart from that I’m sleeping fairly soundly.

    CRAVINGS?

The cereal craving is back. I actually ordered three different boxes on last weeks food shop. I only have the one bowl at breakfast but I genuinely wake up feeling excited for it! (Get.A.Life.Harriet.)  Also seem to have a bit of a thing for curry at the moment! Pretty sure we had it about 3 maybe even 4 times in the last fortnight. Oh and ice cream. The sunshine makes me want alllllll the ice cream.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

I’m feeling pretty anxious at the moment about baby being breech. I’m looking forward to having a bit of a better idea about what’s going to happen in a few days time.

    MISS ANYTHING?

Being able to get down on the floor to properly play with Bella. I’m just too big and uncomfortable now and I’m not convinced I’d even be able to get back up!

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Not necessarily an outfit as such but I picked up some slip on sandals from Primark recently and they are so comfy. I can see myself living in them from hear on out.

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Our spa break was definitely the highlight! We had the loveliest couple of days enjoying each others company. We shopped, enjoyed wonderful food and relaxed in the spa. But mainly we just tried to enjoy being together as a couple for what will probably be the last time for a while.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Making the switch to working from home instead of having to drag myself into the office three days a week! I’m not actually taking a proper maternity leave this time and instead will just be doing my usual tasks from home with baby in tow. I will be taking a month or so off while I settle into a routine but I’m planning on working right up until I pop. At least being at home means I can work from my office in my pjs with unlimited snacks and maybe even the occasional nap too 😉

    28 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

So here I am, 28 weeks pregnant and finally into the Third Trimester! The countdown is now really on. I am feeling ALL THE FEELS about this. I am of course super excited to meet our little boy bundle but I’m also desperately trying to savour every single day of this pregnancy as I’m pretty sure it will be my last. Such a roller coaster of emotions! Here is how I have been getting on over the last couple of weeks.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    28 Weeks & 6 days!

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 28 baby boy weighs around 2.2lb, about the same as an aubergine. He is around 14.8 inches long. Babies heart rate has now slowed down although at 140 beats per minute, it’s about twice as fast as mine!

I feel like I have been in the Drs non stop lately. I had to have my GTT test and have had a couple of midwife appointments in the last few weeks. My normal midwife was off on annual leave for the first appointment and wanted to see me after my GTT to chat about the results. Luckily I got the all clear but I do have a low iron count. I had it last time too so am now taking two iron tablets a day to try and it back up. Baby is measuring perfectly and I got to hear his heartbeat at both appointments which is always lovely.

I also spoke to my Midwife about birth options. She has said she sees no reason why I can’t have the home birth I am hoping for as my pregnancy is very low risk. We are planning to hire a birth pool as I really enjoyed using the water last time. I just have to hope that things continue to go smoothly so we can welcome our baby boy at home!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I can’t face the scales any more. So who knows. I’m just trying to embrace the bump as it will probably be the last time I do this!

    SYMPTOMS?

Overall I just feel really bloody pregnant now! If I have to run up and down the stairs a couple of times I get super out of breath and bending down is a real struggle. Gaviscon is currently my best friend as the horrible heartburn and acid re-flux has now begun. I have also started experiencing the dreaded leg cramps at night too which are so bloody painful! I’m still feeling pretty tired which is probably down to my low iron count.

    MOVEMENT?

Still feeling loads of movement which I love! Although it has been getting pretty uncomfortable at times. He is definitely running out of space in there. I really enjoy laying in bed before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning feeling him wiggle about. Josh has also been able to feel lots of kicks too which is always nice. I have tried to get Bella to feel but she’s too impatient to hold her hand there for long enough.

    STRETCHMARKS?

I’m using my secret saviours band most days still and smothering myself in body butter after my shower each day and just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!!

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been rubbish over the last week or so. I have been listening to my positive affirmations on my Hypnobirthing app to help me fall asleep. But Bella often wakes up to use the toilet once in the night and I tend to go with her as it is downstairs but I really struggle to nod back off once I am back in bed. I also feel like I turn over every five minutes in the bid to get comfy and at this stage, rolling over is not so easy!

    CRAVINGS?

Still loving honey! Mainly in Greek yoghurt with fresh strawberries and pineapple. It’s literally like sunshine in a bowl and I can’t get enough of the stuff.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Alllllll the emotions. The last week has been extremely stressful. But I am also beginning to feel nervous about giving birth again, slightly anxious about how I’ll cope but also just very excited to meet him.

    MISS ANYTHING?

Being able to put my shoes on without feeling like I might pass out and/or throw up!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?

Dressing the bump is beginning to become a bit of a struggle as two pairs of my maternity jeans are now too tight and uncomfortable to wear. So I am currently alternating between wearing one pair of jeans, my maternity leggings and dresses with tights. I recently picked up a few new bits including a gorgeous floaty wrap top from Tescos of all places! It has a little button at the bust which I thought would be perfect for breastfeeding once baby is here. But it surprisingly fits over my growing bump too (at the moment) and I’ve been really loving wearing it!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Josh and I had a much needed date night a couple of weeks back which was lovely. But I also got a new iPhone AND we picked up our new car which I absolutely love. We have also had a couple of really lovely family weekends.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Easter! Just one more week at work then I have 10 whole days off to spend with Bella and I cannot wait!
