    40 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

Well here I am, 40 weeks pregnant and still no real signs of this baby boy making his appearance any time soon. I honestly cannot believe I am writing this post. As Bella was born 3 days early, everyone had just assumed this baby would be slightly early too. Well how wrong were we! Even though I am only one day past my due date, I already feel like I have been overdue for weeks! It’s true what they say about your whole pregnancy flying by apart from the last week or so which seems to last an eternity.

I’m definitely beginning to feel a little impatient and the waiting game is quite frankly totally exhausting! I never got to this point with Bella and then she surprised me by coming early. This time around though, my whole brain is just consumed with wondering when I will go into labour. Every twinge and tightening leaves me questioning IS THIS IT?! The messages from our friends and family asking ‘Is he here yet’ or ‘Any signs of that baby’ have begun and my gosh, they are wearing thin preeeeettty fast. So apologies if you get a blunt ‘no’ reply from me. But please remember, I am just as eager to meet him as you are!

I am also constantly trying to make sure the house is clean and tidy for my home birth which may sound silly to some, but I know that if it isn’t, I will really struggle to relax when I do go into labour! And lets not even talk about how many times I have had to replenish the labour/midwife snacks because I keep bloody eating them (oops).

Of course, I know he will come when he’s ready and there is absolutely no point getting myself stressed out about it. But I’m just excited. And a little nervous for whats to come I suppose.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    40 Weeks + 1 Day

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017 (Yesterday)

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 40 the average weight of a baby is anything between 5.5lbs and 8.8lbs! Bella weighed 8lbs 7oz so I am expecting our baby boy to be a fairly good weight too. He is also probably around 20.2 inches long from crown to heel. My app kindly enlightened me yesterday that he is about the size of a small pumpkin! Eeeek. Apparently baby already has all the skills he needs to be ready to react and respond to us after he is born. He’ll be born with over 70 natural skills and reflexes that will help him thrive outside the womb!

I last saw my midwife at 38+5 and she confirmed that baby boy is still head down and his head was about fifty percent engaged. She commented that he was in the perfect position for both which was good to hear. If he doesn’t make his arrival beforehand, I am booked in to see the midwife again on Monday. She said she would be happy to perform a stretch and sweep then too if I wanted one.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

I braved the scales the other day and I have gained around 3 stone!!! Which I think is about the same amount as in my first pregnancy too. I know that I carry a lot of water whilst pregnant so combined with making chunky babies, I am hoping I’ll see a decent loss once I step on the scales post baby.

    SYMPTOMS?

Mainly just loads of super strong braxton hicks and maybe even the odd proper contraction too. I’m just feeling very uncomfortable now as baby is soooo low down.

    MOVEMENT?

He is still moving most of the time but he has definitely run out of room in there now!

    STRETCHMARKS?

A few new ones but I’m not too worried as I already had so many from my first pregnancy, so what’s a few more?

    SLEEP?

I am really struggling to get a good nights sleep. My hips and pelvis feel like they are grinding together when I lay down and its SO painful. I am also having lots of strange dreams all night long which keep waking me up. Oh and of course I have to get up to pee at least once too. I suppose this is all preparation for the sleepless nights up feeding a newborn that are about to come my way!!

    CRAVINGS?

Greek salad! I’m all about big fresh salads at the moment with olives and feta. But I also have an obsession with magnum ice creams that I am desperately trying to curb. Oops.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Impatient! Come on baby, get a move on, you are so loved already!

    MISS ANYTHING?

At this point, I miss most things from pre pregnancy and feel quite ready to give birth now!

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I ordered two off the shoulder summer dresses from Mango which arrived last week and I LOVE them. I sized up and they surprisingly fit my 40 week bump but I think they will be staples in my summer wardrobe post baby too. They will be perfect for breastfeeding and as they are nice and floaty they will keep me cool in the warm weather and hopefully skim over the mum tum nicely too!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

There have been lots of lovely moments over the last couple of weeks. We’ve spent lots of time relaxing at the in laws house enjoying their swimming pool in this glorious weather. But also just soaking up our last couple of weekends as a three.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Finally meeting our baby boy and becoming a family of four!! I can’t wait for the moment Bella meets her much anticipated baby brother. There will definitely be tears from me.

Hopefully this is the last pregnancy update I will write, if I get to two weeks overdue I will probably be a sobbing mess! I’ve loved writing these fortnightly updates over the past few months and being able to document what is probably going to be my last pregnancy. I so hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have sharing them. I will no doubt be doing plenty of baby and post partum updates once baby finally arrives too so keep an eye out for those!

    30 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

I always feel like 30 weeks is such a milestone! Less than 10 weeks to go now until my due date. It’s all starting to feel very real now and I just know these last few weeks are going to just fly by! Here’s all about how I’ve been getting on at 30 weeks pregnant with baby number two.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    30 Weeks & 4 days!

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 30 baby boy weighs around 2.9lb and is about the same as a cabbage! He is around 15.7 inches long. Apparently if I was to shine a torch or a bright light at my bump, I may even feel baby respond by turning his head!

I haven’t had any more antenatal appointments since my last update. I’m next booked in to see my midwife at the end of the month!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

I finally stepped on the sad step and I’ve officially gained two whole stone!

    SYMPTOMS?

Luckily both my leg cramps and acid reflux has settled down a bit lately! I’m getting more and more aware now that I should probably try to slow down a bit. I’m getting out of breath more frequently now and if I over do it I’m left with really achey hips and a very sore lower back!

    MOVEMENT?

So.much.movement!! He is getting so strong now and sometimes it feels like he may break free out of my belly button at any point haha! I love feeling his movements though so I can’t complain. Although if he could stop waking me multiple times a night with his gymnastics that would be fab 😉

    STRETCHMARKS?

I’m actually really surprised that I don’t appear to have any new stretch marks at this point! I remember in my first pregnancy having all these dark purple lines appear. But this time it still just looks like I only have my existing ones that are much more faded. I am still using my secret saviours band most days still and smothering myself in body butter after showering. Fingers crossed for these last few weeks.

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been a bit all over the place lately. I’ve had a very stressful few weeks and therefore have spent hours most nights wide awake worrying about things. Although this isn’t necessarily pregnancy related. Bella was also unwell last week with a super high temperature so ended up in bed with me a couple of times. Safe to say I didn’t sleep very well on those nights!

    CRAVINGS?

Ice cream! Specifically mint chocolate chip. But can I get my hands on any?! No I bloody can’t! Although as I type this, I’m waiting for my food shop to be delivered which may or may not contain multiple mint chocolate items 😉

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Tired. Achey. Heavily pregnant. But oh so excited to meet this little one!

    MISS ANYTHING?

My pre pregnancy wardrobe!! I am really beginning to miss wearing my favourite jeans and my dungarees especially!

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I am officially happiest in my maternity leggings now. They are probably the only thing I am actually comfortable in at this point. Also been loving shirts (as always!) I picked up a gorgeous pink striped one from H&M last week in a couple of sizes up and it fits the bump for now but will also be perfect post baby!

I organised my wardrobe this week as I was getting fed up of not being able to find anything that actually still fitted. I sorted it into three sections. Bump friendly, post baby/ breastfeeding friendly and not a chance for a good six months 😉

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I’m feeling a bit smug and super organised as last night we ordered the last couple of bits off of our baby ‘to buy’ list! Babies car seat and my change bag arrived this week and I’m now just waiting on a few more bits to be delivered and then I think we are finished! Although I’m sure once I start washing baby clothes and sorting everything out there may be some bits I have forgotten.

I’m also loving the beautiful sunshine we’ve been having lately. My pregnant feet are so happy to be in sandals!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Spending the rest of the week with my Bella Boo! We have some lovely plans for the beginning of the week and then Josh will be off for five days over the Easter weekend too. Hoping for lots of family fun in the sunshine!

    28 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

So here I am, 28 weeks pregnant and finally into the Third Trimester! The countdown is now really on. I am feeling ALL THE FEELS about this. I am of course super excited to meet our little boy bundle but I’m also desperately trying to savour every single day of this pregnancy as I’m pretty sure it will be my last. Such a roller coaster of emotions! Here is how I have been getting on over the last couple of weeks.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    28 Weeks & 6 days!

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 28 baby boy weighs around 2.2lb, about the same as an aubergine. He is around 14.8 inches long. Babies heart rate has now slowed down although at 140 beats per minute, it’s about twice as fast as mine!

I feel like I have been in the Drs non stop lately. I had to have my GTT test and have had a couple of midwife appointments in the last few weeks. My normal midwife was off on annual leave for the first appointment and wanted to see me after my GTT to chat about the results. Luckily I got the all clear but I do have a low iron count. I had it last time too so am now taking two iron tablets a day to try and it back up. Baby is measuring perfectly and I got to hear his heartbeat at both appointments which is always lovely.

I also spoke to my Midwife about birth options. She has said she sees no reason why I can’t have the home birth I am hoping for as my pregnancy is very low risk. We are planning to hire a birth pool as I really enjoyed using the water last time. I just have to hope that things continue to go smoothly so we can welcome our baby boy at home!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I can’t face the scales any more. So who knows. I’m just trying to embrace the bump as it will probably be the last time I do this!

    SYMPTOMS?

Overall I just feel really bloody pregnant now! If I have to run up and down the stairs a couple of times I get super out of breath and bending down is a real struggle. Gaviscon is currently my best friend as the horrible heartburn and acid re-flux has now begun. I have also started experiencing the dreaded leg cramps at night too which are so bloody painful! I’m still feeling pretty tired which is probably down to my low iron count.

    MOVEMENT?

Still feeling loads of movement which I love! Although it has been getting pretty uncomfortable at times. He is definitely running out of space in there. I really enjoy laying in bed before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning feeling him wiggle about. Josh has also been able to feel lots of kicks too which is always nice. I have tried to get Bella to feel but she’s too impatient to hold her hand there for long enough.

    STRETCHMARKS?

I’m using my secret saviours band most days still and smothering myself in body butter after my shower each day and just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!!

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been rubbish over the last week or so. I have been listening to my positive affirmations on my Hypnobirthing app to help me fall asleep. But Bella often wakes up to use the toilet once in the night and I tend to go with her as it is downstairs but I really struggle to nod back off once I am back in bed. I also feel like I turn over every five minutes in the bid to get comfy and at this stage, rolling over is not so easy!

    CRAVINGS?

Still loving honey! Mainly in Greek yoghurt with fresh strawberries and pineapple. It’s literally like sunshine in a bowl and I can’t get enough of the stuff.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Alllllll the emotions. The last week has been extremely stressful. But I am also beginning to feel nervous about giving birth again, slightly anxious about how I’ll cope but also just very excited to meet him.

    MISS ANYTHING?

Being able to put my shoes on without feeling like I might pass out and/or throw up!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?

Dressing the bump is beginning to become a bit of a struggle as two pairs of my maternity jeans are now too tight and uncomfortable to wear. So I am currently alternating between wearing one pair of jeans, my maternity leggings and dresses with tights. I recently picked up a few new bits including a gorgeous floaty wrap top from Tescos of all places! It has a little button at the bust which I thought would be perfect for breastfeeding once baby is here. But it surprisingly fits over my growing bump too (at the moment) and I’ve been really loving wearing it!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Josh and I had a much needed date night a couple of weeks back which was lovely. But I also got a new iPhone AND we picked up our new car which I absolutely love. We have also had a couple of really lovely family weekends.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Easter! Just one more week at work then I have 10 whole days off to spend with Bella and I cannot wait!

    Baby Number Two Wishlist

    copy-of-christmas-gift-ideas-for-her
Since finding out we were expecting again I have been slowly compiling a little wish list of things we would like to get for Baby Number Two. Today I am sharing my top picks with you. As you can quite clearly see, I am absolutely LOVING all the greys and yellows for this baby. This wish list is a combination of things we have already purchased ourselves, a couple of products from some amazing brands we are super excited to be working with and there are also a few bits we still hope to get over the next couple of months.

    Izziwotnot Moses Basket
We had a lovely looking Moses basket for Bella but she absolutely hated the thing and it was a real struggle to get her to sleep in it. I think the main problem was that it was a bit narrow and she was a bit chunky! This beautiful basket from Izziwotnot seems to a be a bit bigger and wider so hopefully baby boy will be super comfortable in it. We have actually gone for grey wicker and a grey stand and it is GORGEOUS.
I breastfed Bella for 11 months and I am hoping to be able to do the same for this baby too. I didn’t really need to express for Bella regularly but there was the odd occasion when it would have been handy if she had taken a bottle. I did use a manual breast pump a few times but with very little success sadly. This time my sister is very kindly lending me her Medela Swing electric pump which she got on really well with so hopefully I will too!
When I was expecting Bella the first blanket I bought for her was very similar to this one just pink. She still sleeps with it on her bed now and loves it so of course, I had to get one for baby boy too.
There are so many different baby nests on the market now and it is something I wish I had when Bella was small. As I said above, she wasn’t a fan of her moses basket at all. I remember rolling up cellular blankets and popping them around her to try and make her feel more snug and secure!! So a baby nest definitely seems like a much easier option and I have heard such wonderful things about them. This one from BabyDan looks fab and is supposed to last up until six months. It’s also a fraction of the cost compared with some of the other brands!
A car seat is of course a must. We had a Maxi Cosi one last time and loved it but we sold it on when Bella moved into her bigger one. We’re basically just repurchasing the same one as we still have the Isofix base for it.
The children’s shared bedroom is grey and white with pops of yellow and pink. This bright yellow change mat will be the perfect pop of colour!
We had a very floral version of this swing with Bella and it was an absolute lifesaver. Probably one of my favourite baby items we had for her in fact. It sings lullaby’s and has a timer that you can set so it swings for 15 minutes which FYI is the perfect amount of time to grab a quick shower and get yourself dressed!
You can never have too many Muslins, they are an essential baby product and can be used for pretty much anything! I plan on getting a few of these larger ones for swadding, to drape over the car seat/pushchair and to use as breastfeeding covers.
This time we needed to purchase a smaller cot for baby as we just didn’t have space to use Bella’s old cot bed as it’s quite large. So we have gone for this space saver grey cot from John Lewis which arrived yesterday so Josh will be assembling it at the weekend.
This gorgeous pushchair arrived last week and it is probably the thing I am most excited about using when baby arrives. I couldn’t resist setting it all up and I am so impressed with it. It seems really well made and looks like it will be very comfortable for baby too.
When Bella was small we used to use a white noise app on our iPad to help settle her which meant leaving it next to her moses basket or in her room for hours on end until the battery went flat normally! I stumbled across Whisbear which sounds like such a genius idea. It initially plays for 40 minutes until your baby is hopefully asleep but it also has a cry sensor so when baby starts to get upset it slowly comes back on for another 20 minutes to soothe baby back to sleep. Amaaaazing.
What are your baby must haves? I’d love to know!
    Harriet XO
*Some of the items mentioned in this post have been gifted to me free of charge as part of some upcoming brand collaborations I am working on although all opinions are honest and my own*

    20 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

20 weeks pregnant already!? Time is just flying by and I can’t believe I am already at the half way point! The last couple of weeks have been pretty hectic with getting the bedrooms organised ready to switch about. I’m also really pleased as I’ve made a good start on buying bits for our baby boy. I have picked up so many bargains in the January sales and I have started to make a list of all of the bigger items we’ll be needing to buy too. I never did get round to posting my 18 week update so this update will cover how I’ve been getting on since my last post at 16 weeks!

    HOW FAR ALONG?
    20 Weeks

    DUE DATE?
    14th June 2017

    GENDER?
    Boy!!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?
At week 20, baby is the size of a banana. Measuring about 25.6cm in length (this is now measured from head to toe rather than crown to runp!) and he weighs up to 10.6oz. Babies ears are now in their final position and stand out from his head. Apparently he also has little eyebrows starting to appear too! A whitish coat of a slick, fatty substance called vernix caseosa begins to cover your baby. It acts as a moisturiser and lubricant, helping to protect her delicate skin from drying out in the amniotic fluid.

Since my last update I have had my 16 week midwife appointment which wasn’t actually until just before I turned 18 weeks. Everything went perfectly which is always reassuring. She was more than happy with my blood test results, my urine sample and my blood pressure which is always such a relief too. I have my 20 week scan in a couple of days too which I’m looking forward too.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I lost the few lbs I gained over the festive period pretty quickly thankfully. Which means I am now up around 7lbs from my pre pregnancy weight which I am actually very pleased with. I piled on so much weight in my first pregnancy and I’m trying so hard to avoid this happening again.

    SYMPTOMS?
Pain. SO MUCH PAIN. I’m really suffering with awful pain in my pelvic and pubic bone area. It started a couple of weeks ago now and is showing no signs of easing up sadly. I’m thinking I may have to book in for some physio soon as I think it may be the start of PPGP (pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain). I am also still feeling super tired most of the time which is slightly annoying as I thought the second trimester was when you got all your energy back! Still waiting for that pregnancy glow over here!!

    MOVEMENT?
I am definitely feeling some movement now and I am super excited for those little kicks to get stronger. I was actually beginning to worry a little as I was sure I felt Bella move earlier than this. Baby boy only seems to move when I get into bed in the evenings, or at least that is the time I notice it the most! Feeling baby move is definitely one of my favourite parts of pregnancy and I’ve been really enjoying laying in bed each evening feeling him squirm about.

    STRETCHMARKS?
I think I have a few new ones on my boobs sadly or they could just be old ones that are more noticeable now as my poor boobs seem to just keep bloody growing!! I am trying really hard to be more consistent with applying my bio oil twice a day as I keep forgetting.

    SLEEP?
Sleep still isn’t great, I’ve been popping a small pillow under my bump at night to try and support it better but I still feel like I just toss and turn all night long. I have also been having the strangest dreams every night for the last couple of weeks which I suspect is probably hormone related!

    CRAVINGS?
I have been loving satsumas recently which I suppose isn’t a bad craving to have! Apart from that I seem to have a constant hankering for Japanese food and chicken katsu curry! I know where we are going for our date night next month 😉

    HOW I’M FEELING?
Apart from the pain, I’m feeling okay! I’ve felt a little overwhelmed at times lately. I am trying to get myself a bit more organised which is definitely helping me to stop stressing.

    MISS ANYTHING?
Walking without feeling like my pelvis might snap. Ouch.

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?
Josh bought me a gorgeous new grey coat for Christmas which I’ve been loving wearing. The buttons on it do just about do up at the moment! Although I tend to wear it open anyway so it should last me through these cold months which means I won’t need to buy a Maternity coat.  I also found my maternity leggings from last time which are super comfy, but they sadly have a hole in so I’ll need some new ones!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT MONTH?
There has been a fair few! Obviously hearing babies heartbeat at my midwife appointment was my favourite. It’s such a magical sound and it always makes me feel a little emotional too. But Josh and I also enjoyed a lovely spa break for his birthday a couple of weeks back which was just blissful. We have also made a start on shuffling our bedrooms around at home to make space for our baby boy’s arrival. Josh and I have moved into what was our guest bedroom, Bella and the baby will then be sharing our old bedroom and the room that Bella is in now will become a shared office for Josh and I!

We have also finally settled on a name for baby boy!!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Making a proper start on the children’s shared bedroom over the next couple of weeks and of course seeing baby again at our 20 week anomaly scan at the end of the week!

    16 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

The festive period really threw me off track with all things blog related and I am only just getting back into the swing of things which has meant that despite starting this update on time with all the best intentions to have it up between Christmas and New Year, by the time it finally goes live, I will actually be nearer to 18 weeks pregnant. Oops!

I turned 16 weeks on the 28th December and we luckily managed to book our private gender scan for the very same day. It’s safe to say that for this reason, week 16 is one I have definitely been looking forward to!

    HOW FAR ALONG?
    16 weeks & 5 days

    DUE DATE?
    14th June 2017

    GENDER?
Boy!! We find out a few days back and I think I’m finally starting to get my head around it. I’m so excited to have one of each.

    HOW’S BABY DOING?
At week 16, baby is the size of an avocado. Measuring about 11.6cm in length and weighing around 3.5 ounces. Over the next three weeks baby will go through a big growth spurt, more than doubling his weight! Babies grasp may now have developed enough for him to be able to hold his little hands together too which is just crazy!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
As expected, when I weighed myself after Christmas I was up a few extra lbs but I reckon this will probably come off again once I’m back on track with my healthy eating.

    SYMPTOMS?
I think I can finally say that I am over the sickness! Hallelujah! The festive period seemed to completely take it out of me though and I have been feeling so tired and run down. Hopefully once we are settled back into our usual routine I might perk up a bit again. Over the last couple of weeks my skin has been pretty bad, probably a combination of hormones and lack of healthy foods so again I’m hoping that will settle down soon now I’m eating cleaner again.

    MOVEMENT?
I’m not 100% but I think I may have felt those first little flutters in the last couple of days. I think by my next update I will have definitely felt baby move properly which I am so excited about.

    STRETCHMARKS?
I have so many stretchmarks from my first pregnancy and I really don’t want to add anymore so I have been smothering myself in bio oil every day (well, when I remember that is!).

    SLEEP?
Since my last update sleep has definitely taken a turn for the worse sadly. I feel like I just toss and turn all night long which means when I get up I still feel exhausted. I’ve also been super thirsty at night recently which has resulted in me having to get up to pee a couple of times a night which is super annoying.

    CRAVINGS?
PATE. One of the only things I actually avoid in pregnancy typically. I must admit I did cave and enjoyed a couple of pate crackers over Christmas (woops). I’ve also made Josh promise to make me pate on toast as my first meal post baby!

    HOW I’M FEELING?
Mentally I’m feeling great. I’m very excited to properly start baby preparations now we know what we are having and overall I’m in a really good place right now. But physically, I am bloody exhausted.

    MISS ANYTHING?
I did sort of miss having an alcoholic drink or too over the festive period, especially on our Christmas works do!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?
I’m all about dresses & maternity tights lately. I find tights so much more comfortable than maternity jeans and have been teaming them with stretchy dresses that can be dressed up or down. I’m also loving my new white leather converse I got for Christmas and can definitely seen them becoming a maternity wardrobe staple!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?
Finding out we are having a baby boy!!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Getting back to a bit of normality after the Christmas break. It feels so good to have my house back to normal now as the trees and the decorations were beginning to get on my nerves a little! We also have a spa break booked for the end of next week to celebrate Josh’s birthday which we are both really looking forward to.
