    Welcome To The World Hugo

After keeping us waiting four days past his due date, our beautiful baby boy finally arrived into the world on Sunday 18th June at 9.16pm. He weighed a very chunky 9lbs, has the softest blonde hair and lovely big blue eyes just like his big sister and his Daddy. His full name is Hugo James William Lee. We decided on Hugo pretty much as soon as we knew he was a boy. James is after two of Josh’s brothers. And then William is not only Josh’s middle name but also his Dad’s and Grandad’s so we wanted to keep up the family tradition.

I managed to have the home water birth I had hoped for and it really was such an amazing experience. But unfortunately I did also have to be transferred into the local hospital afterwards due to a small post partum haemorrhage. That bit was pretty scary but luckily we didn’t have to stay at the hospital for very long and we were back home again within just 12 hours. I’ll be sharing Hugo’s birth story along with lots of photos from his birth in a separate post at some point this week hopefully!

I also wanted to say a huge thank you for all the lovely messages we have received following Hugo’s arrival, I have read every single one and we are so grateful for all of your kind words!

As you can imagine we are all absolutely besotted with our newest addition and he was totally worth the wait! We are loving settling into life as a family of four and just getting to know our little Hugo bear.

    40 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

Well here I am, 40 weeks pregnant and still no real signs of this baby boy making his appearance any time soon. I honestly cannot believe I am writing this post. As Bella was born 3 days early, everyone had just assumed this baby would be slightly early too. Well how wrong were we! Even though I am only one day past my due date, I already feel like I have been overdue for weeks! It’s true what they say about your whole pregnancy flying by apart from the last week or so which seems to last an eternity.

I’m definitely beginning to feel a little impatient and the waiting game is quite frankly totally exhausting! I never got to this point with Bella and then she surprised me by coming early. This time around though, my whole brain is just consumed with wondering when I will go into labour. Every twinge and tightening leaves me questioning IS THIS IT?! The messages from our friends and family asking ‘Is he here yet’ or ‘Any signs of that baby’ have begun and my gosh, they are wearing thin preeeeettty fast. So apologies if you get a blunt ‘no’ reply from me. But please remember, I am just as eager to meet him as you are!

I am also constantly trying to make sure the house is clean and tidy for my home birth which may sound silly to some, but I know that if it isn’t, I will really struggle to relax when I do go into labour! And lets not even talk about how many times I have had to replenish the labour/midwife snacks because I keep bloody eating them (oops).

Of course, I know he will come when he’s ready and there is absolutely no point getting myself stressed out about it. But I’m just excited. And a little nervous for whats to come I suppose.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    40 Weeks + 1 Day

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017 (Yesterday)

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 40 the average weight of a baby is anything between 5.5lbs and 8.8lbs! Bella weighed 8lbs 7oz so I am expecting our baby boy to be a fairly good weight too. He is also probably around 20.2 inches long from crown to heel. My app kindly enlightened me yesterday that he is about the size of a small pumpkin! Eeeek. Apparently baby already has all the skills he needs to be ready to react and respond to us after he is born. He’ll be born with over 70 natural skills and reflexes that will help him thrive outside the womb!

I last saw my midwife at 38+5 and she confirmed that baby boy is still head down and his head was about fifty percent engaged. She commented that he was in the perfect position for both which was good to hear. If he doesn’t make his arrival beforehand, I am booked in to see the midwife again on Monday. She said she would be happy to perform a stretch and sweep then too if I wanted one.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

I braved the scales the other day and I have gained around 3 stone!!! Which I think is about the same amount as in my first pregnancy too. I know that I carry a lot of water whilst pregnant so combined with making chunky babies, I am hoping I’ll see a decent loss once I step on the scales post baby.

    SYMPTOMS?

Mainly just loads of super strong braxton hicks and maybe even the odd proper contraction too. I’m just feeling very uncomfortable now as baby is soooo low down.

    MOVEMENT?

He is still moving most of the time but he has definitely run out of room in there now!

    STRETCHMARKS?

A few new ones but I’m not too worried as I already had so many from my first pregnancy, so what’s a few more?

    SLEEP?

I am really struggling to get a good nights sleep. My hips and pelvis feel like they are grinding together when I lay down and its SO painful. I am also having lots of strange dreams all night long which keep waking me up. Oh and of course I have to get up to pee at least once too. I suppose this is all preparation for the sleepless nights up feeding a newborn that are about to come my way!!

    CRAVINGS?

Greek salad! I’m all about big fresh salads at the moment with olives and feta. But I also have an obsession with magnum ice creams that I am desperately trying to curb. Oops.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Impatient! Come on baby, get a move on, you are so loved already!

    MISS ANYTHING?

At this point, I miss most things from pre pregnancy and feel quite ready to give birth now!

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I ordered two off the shoulder summer dresses from Mango which arrived last week and I LOVE them. I sized up and they surprisingly fit my 40 week bump but I think they will be staples in my summer wardrobe post baby too. They will be perfect for breastfeeding and as they are nice and floaty they will keep me cool in the warm weather and hopefully skim over the mum tum nicely too!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

There have been lots of lovely moments over the last couple of weeks. We’ve spent lots of time relaxing at the in laws house enjoying their swimming pool in this glorious weather. But also just soaking up our last couple of weekends as a three.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Finally meeting our baby boy and becoming a family of four!! I can’t wait for the moment Bella meets her much anticipated baby brother. There will definitely be tears from me.

Hopefully this is the last pregnancy update I will write, if I get to two weeks overdue I will probably be a sobbing mess! I’ve loved writing these fortnightly updates over the past few months and being able to document what is probably going to be my last pregnancy. I so hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have sharing them. I will no doubt be doing plenty of baby and post partum updates once baby finally arrives too so keep an eye out for those!

    Our Maternity Photos

If you have ever previously read the blog then you will probably know that Josh’s sister Char is an extremely talented photographer who has photographed us many times before (posts here & here). We are very lucky to have had her capture our journey into parenthood right from the very beginning. And I am super grateful to have so many beautiful photos to look back on from these last few years. The first photo shoot we ever had with Charlotte was a maternity shoot when I was heavily pregnant with Bella. So of course it seemed only right that we did the same to capture my second pregnancy too!

We had previously decided we would head to camber sands beach to take our maternity photos although I soon realised that this wasn’t my best idea. Despite the sunshine and beautiful blue skies, it was actually extremely windy when we arrived at the beach late yesterday afternoon. So much so that I could hardly see through all my hair and the flying sand! We managed to take a few photos but quickly abandoned the beach and headed back to the car in search of an alternative location!

After a quick tour of the beautiful East Sussex countryside, with a little stop off in a field, we finally ended up in a super pretty orchard instead! I was a little nervous beforehand as I hate having my photo taken as I always feel so awkward. I was also feeling very body conscious as my bump is pretty huge now (which strangers seem to LOVE to keep telling me). So I can’t help but feel a tad whale like lately. But as always, Char made us all feel so at ease. She has such a great eye for taking photos and I am over the moon with the finished pictures. We will definitely treasure these last photos of us as a family of three!

If you’d like to swoon at more of Charlotte’s amazing work or to even book her yourself, then head over to her website and definitely make sure you’re following her on both Facebook and Instagram.

Now, I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!

    34 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

For some reason 34 weeks pregnant seems like a real milestone to me. Six weeks until my due date really doesn’t seem very long at all! To think I could potentially only write two more of these fortnightly updates blows my mind a little bit to be completely honest. Part of me feels more than ready to meet our baby now but there’s also a small part of me that feels a bit panicky about how quickly its coming around!

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    34+1 Weeks Pregnant

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 34 baby boy weighs around 4.7lb and is about the same as a cantaloupe melon! And oh boy don’t I know it. He is around 17.7 inches from crown to heel. Baby boy is continuing to fill out. His layers of fat will help him to regulate his temperature once he is born.

I had a routine midwife appointment last week and baby is measuring spot on and all was well. Although she informed me that baby is still laying in the transverse position and is yet to move to head down. He still has a couple of weeks to move as apparently they don’t begin to worry until 36 weeks. I will be seeing my midwife again next week and she’ll be doing a full blood count again. Mainly to check on my iron levels and to see if they have increased at all since being on the iron tablets. They don’t like them to drop below 100 if you’re planning a home birth so fingers crossed they are up a bit!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?

I don’t even want to know… Ignorance is bliss after all 😉

    SYMPTOMS?

Thankfully both the leg cramps and restless legs have eased off again. My main symptom at the moment seems to be dizziness. It’s worst when I lay down, bend over or get up too quickly. It’s the most horrible feeling and I find it a bit scary. I’m also just generally feeling very uncomfortable now. My bump feels so heavy and low which makes the simplest of tasks very awkward!

    MOVEMENT?

Baby boy is still super active. I’m definitely going to miss feeling him move once he’s earth side!

    STRETCHMARKS?

Still no new ones that I can see…*Touches ALL the wood*

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been awful lately. I’m just really uncomfortable now and waking frequently to pee means I’m not getting much sleep at all.

    CRAVINGS?

I’ve had a thing for diet lemonade recently. Which is very unlike me as I don’t normally drink fizzy drinks! Also been loving ice cream too.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

    Tired. OH SO TIRED.

    MISS ANYTHING?

Sleep. My pre pregnancy wardrobe. Oh and just being able to do things without feeling like I’ve just run a marathon 😉

    FAVOURITE OUTFIT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I pretty much just alternate the same few outfits now and I am so looking forward to being able to wear normal clothes again soon.

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I have washed, dried and ironed ALL of babies clothes up to 3 months which has made me feel so excited about meeting our baby boy. I’ve also packed his change bag ready for post birth. I’m still hoping for a home birth so technically didn’t need to pack it into a bag but I just thought it would be easier to keep it all in one place. We also collected the bedside crib at the weekend which was the last big thing to tick off the list!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Josh and I are off to Reading at the weekend for our last little getaway before babies arrival. We’re planning to do some shopping and go for lunch on the first day and then just relax in the spa on the second. I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time together. I am also having my pre baby hair done the following weekend and we have our maternity shoot. Both of which I am super excited about! No doubt these next couple of weeks will fly by as we have lots to keep us busy.

    28 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

So here I am, 28 weeks pregnant and finally into the Third Trimester! The countdown is now really on. I am feeling ALL THE FEELS about this. I am of course super excited to meet our little boy bundle but I’m also desperately trying to savour every single day of this pregnancy as I’m pretty sure it will be my last. Such a roller coaster of emotions! Here is how I have been getting on over the last couple of weeks.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    28 Weeks & 6 days!

    DUE DATE?

    14th June 2017

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 28 baby boy weighs around 2.2lb, about the same as an aubergine. He is around 14.8 inches long. Babies heart rate has now slowed down although at 140 beats per minute, it’s about twice as fast as mine!

I feel like I have been in the Drs non stop lately. I had to have my GTT test and have had a couple of midwife appointments in the last few weeks. My normal midwife was off on annual leave for the first appointment and wanted to see me after my GTT to chat about the results. Luckily I got the all clear but I do have a low iron count. I had it last time too so am now taking two iron tablets a day to try and it back up. Baby is measuring perfectly and I got to hear his heartbeat at both appointments which is always lovely.

I also spoke to my Midwife about birth options. She has said she sees no reason why I can’t have the home birth I am hoping for as my pregnancy is very low risk. We are planning to hire a birth pool as I really enjoyed using the water last time. I just have to hope that things continue to go smoothly so we can welcome our baby boy at home!

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I can’t face the scales any more. So who knows. I’m just trying to embrace the bump as it will probably be the last time I do this!

    SYMPTOMS?

Overall I just feel really bloody pregnant now! If I have to run up and down the stairs a couple of times I get super out of breath and bending down is a real struggle. Gaviscon is currently my best friend as the horrible heartburn and acid re-flux has now begun. I have also started experiencing the dreaded leg cramps at night too which are so bloody painful! I’m still feeling pretty tired which is probably down to my low iron count.

    MOVEMENT?

Still feeling loads of movement which I love! Although it has been getting pretty uncomfortable at times. He is definitely running out of space in there. I really enjoy laying in bed before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning feeling him wiggle about. Josh has also been able to feel lots of kicks too which is always nice. I have tried to get Bella to feel but she’s too impatient to hold her hand there for long enough.

    STRETCHMARKS?

I’m using my secret saviours band most days still and smothering myself in body butter after my shower each day and just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!!

    SLEEP?

Sleep has been rubbish over the last week or so. I have been listening to my positive affirmations on my Hypnobirthing app to help me fall asleep. But Bella often wakes up to use the toilet once in the night and I tend to go with her as it is downstairs but I really struggle to nod back off once I am back in bed. I also feel like I turn over every five minutes in the bid to get comfy and at this stage, rolling over is not so easy!

    CRAVINGS?

Still loving honey! Mainly in Greek yoghurt with fresh strawberries and pineapple. It’s literally like sunshine in a bowl and I can’t get enough of the stuff.

    HOW I’M FEELING?

Alllllll the emotions. The last week has been extremely stressful. But I am also beginning to feel nervous about giving birth again, slightly anxious about how I’ll cope but also just very excited to meet him.

    MISS ANYTHING?

Being able to put my shoes on without feeling like I might pass out and/or throw up!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?

Dressing the bump is beginning to become a bit of a struggle as two pairs of my maternity jeans are now too tight and uncomfortable to wear. So I am currently alternating between wearing one pair of jeans, my maternity leggings and dresses with tights. I recently picked up a few new bits including a gorgeous floaty wrap top from Tescos of all places! It has a little button at the bust which I thought would be perfect for breastfeeding once baby is here. But it surprisingly fits over my growing bump too (at the moment) and I’ve been really loving wearing it!

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

Josh and I had a much needed date night a couple of weeks back which was lovely. But I also got a new iPhone AND we picked up our new car which I absolutely love. We have also had a couple of really lovely family weekends.

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Easter! Just one more week at work then I have 10 whole days off to spend with Bella and I cannot wait!

    26 Weeks Pregnant {Baby Number Two}

I feel like the weeks are flying by now and I can’t believe that my next update will mark the beginning of the third and final trimester. So many people told me how your second pregnancy whizzes by compared to the first and oh boy, it is so true.

    HOW FAR ALONG?

    26 weeks & 2 days

    DUE DATE?

14th June 2017 – Less than 100 days to go until my due date!!

    GENDER?

    Boy!

    HOW’S BABY DOING?

At week 26, baby weighs as much as a red cabbage! Which is about 1.7lbs. From head to heel he is now over 14 inches long. According to my app, babies growing body is supported by his strengthening spine, which now has 150 joints, 33 rings and 1,000 ligaments! Which is just crazy! Our baby boy’s taste buds are now fully developed, his nostrils are beginning to open and his mouth and lips are becoming more sensitive.

    WEIGHT CHANGE?
I have been making a conscious effort to eat healthier the past couple of weeks and have cut right down on the amount of treats I’m allowing myself. I’m feeling so much better for it but but I have also been weighing myself much less frequently so I’m not sure what my weight is at the moment. Although I’m starting to feel huge now and have really noticed the extra weight gain in my face, which I haaaaate!

    SYMPTOMS?

My main pregnancy symptom over the past couple of weeks has been my crazy emotions. They are all over the place and I’ve had quite a few teary moments lately. I’ve also been super thirsty which has been worrying me slightly as I know it can be a sign of Gestational Diabetes. I am booked in for my blood test in a couple of weeks to check and I have everything crossed that I don’t have it.

    MOVEMENT?

Baby boy is extremely active now which is always so reassuring! It feels like he is constantly on the go, squirming and wiggling about in there. Although, I did have a bit of a panic last week as I realised I couldn’t remember the last time I had felt him move. I tried the usual laying on my side, having a glass of cold water and something sugary to eat but he still didn’t move. As this was very unusual I went up to the maternity ward to get checked over and thankfully all was fine. As soon as the midwife touched my bump he started wiggling and she had no problems finding his heartbeat! Little monkey is keeping us on our toes already!

    STRETCHMARKS?

No new ones that I can see yet. I am still using my secret saviours band with the day gel every day and then using the night cream before bed each night. I absolutely adore the smell of both of the products and genuinely look forward to using them!

    SLEEP?

Sleep is really hit and miss lately. I either sleep really well and don’t wake at all or I find myself counting sheep at 1am, 3am and 5am. I also feel super tired during the afternoons and could definitely take a nap at my desk if I had the chance.

    CRAVINGS?

Honey! I literally can’t get enough of the stuff. I have been especially loving honey and banana on toast and greek yoghurt topped with a drizzle of honey too. Better than the sausage rolls I suppose 😉

    HOW I’M FEELING?

I found week 24 really tough and found myself in tears almost daily for various crazy reasons. My emotions seem to be settling down a bit again thank god. Apart from that I’m feeling okay. I’m looking forward to my midwife appointment next week so that I can discuss my home birth in a bit more detail.

    MISS ANYTHING?

For the first time I think probably EVER I have been fancying an alcoholic beverage. I rarely drink so this totally took me by surprise. I’ve been having some slimline tonic with fresh lime and just pretending its a G&T instead!

    FAVOURITE RECENT OUTFIT?

A couple of weeks back I won a Selfish Mother tee and have been loving wearing that with ripped jeans and an oversized cardigan. I’ve been thinking about picking up some new bits for Spring, especially tops as mine are all becoming too small now. I think I will probably just pick up some over sized shirts/ shirt dresses that will see me through the last few months of my pregnancy as the weather gets warmer and that I can also wear afterwards which are suitable for breastfeeding.

    BEST MOMENT THIS FORTNIGHT?

I got my hair done at the weekend and it’s amazing what a little self care can do for your confidence. I went a bit blonder and a bit shorter and I’m really pleased with it!

    LOOKING FORWARD TO?

My next midwife appointment as it feels like forever since I last saw her! Josh and I have also got plans to go out for Sushi at one of our favourite restaurants next week which I can’t wait for.
