The Ordinary Moments ’16 #26 | Summer Evenings At The Beach

I’m not entirely sure why but summer always seems to bring out my spontaneous side, I suppose I just feel so much more relaxed about things when the sun is shining. I’m all about the last minute picnics, impromptu family BBQs and spur of the moment trips to the beach with friends at the moment and let me tell you, I am loving every second. Making memories with your nearest and dearest is what summer is all about, right?

The weather was so beautiful on Friday evening we decided to make the most of it and ignore the fact Bella’s bedtime was nearing and instead we jumped in the car and headed to the beach for dinner and a paddle in the sea with a couple of friends. I’ve said it before but spontaneous Friday night trips to the beach really are one of my favourite things about Summer, they make me heart so so happy.

Bella adores the beach too so she always has the most wonderful time and my gosh is it a challenge trying to tear her away when it’s time to leave. Watching her running along the sand, giggling away without a care in the world, is quite honestly the best sight. I could watch her all.day.long. These moments are what it’s all about and it’s one of those things I wish I could bottle up and keep forever. Life seems simpler at the beach somehow and there really is nowhere else I’d rather spend a sunny friday evening.

A few of my favourite photos from our evening, the sky was absolutely gorgeous and I lost count of the amount of times I said ‘It’s such a beautiful evening, just LOOK at that pretty pink sky’ 😉

The Ordinary Moments ’16 #19 | An Evening Trip To The Beach

Where we live we really do have the best of both worlds. We are so lucky to be surrounded by beautiful Sussex countryside but we’re also just a short 15 minute drive from the coast too.

On Thursday evening when I was putting Bella to bed we were chatting about the things we were going to do together the next day and I promised her that if it was sunny we would go to the beach and get fish & chips for dinner as a little treat. Admittedly it was a bit of a bribe, you know the ‘if you go to sleep without a fuss then we will do WHATEVER you want tomorrow’ sort of ones 😉

It totally worked though so I’ll have to remember this one for future use. She went to bed like a good girl as promised and as soon as she got up Friday morning she started asking me if we could go to the beach with Daddy to get ‘chipppysss pleeeeease’ so there was no getting out of that one! The weather has been absolutely gorgeous all week here in Sussex and Friday was no exception so we managed to drag Josh away from his desk at work much earlier than usual and we headed to the coast to blow away the cobwebs.

There really is nothing I love more than a spontaneous evening trip to the beach with my little family at the end of a busy week. There is something about the beach that I find so calming and I always leave wondering why I don’t visit more often. I left my phone in the car so that I had no distractions as I wanted to just soak in every moment with my two favourite people.

It was the most beautiful evening at the beach and Bella was so excited to be there, she couldn’t wipe the smile off of her face. As soon as we got near to the water she was tugging her shoes off and demanding I did the same so we could splash around in the water. I’m pretty sure I spent most of the time with my heart in my throat as I watched my darling two year old fearlessly running through the water, with not a care in the world, looking like she was about to face plant into the sea at any moment  😉 It felt so good to feel the sand between my toes and the evening sun beating down onto my shoulders, there really was no where else I’d rather have been.

Spending Friday evening eating chips and walking along the beach splashing in the sea may not sound very exciting to some, but to my two year old, it made her whole frigging week! And seeing that look of pure happiness on her face as she chased the dog across the sand, well it made mine too. Children are so innocent and I love how they can find joy in the simplest of things. Something I need to practice more. Gosh, this kid teaches me life lessons every.single.day.

    Our week away in Norfolk

You may have seen on my Instagram or Twitter that we have just spent a week away in beautiful Norfolk. We have been house and dog sitting for my husband’s grandparents while they were on holiday. They live in a gorgeous house down a country lane not far from the coast and we had such a lovely time exploring the local area, so I thought I would share some of what we got up to and a few loads of my favourite photos we took while we were there.

We started off the week with a picnic and a walk around Sheringham Park which is a National Trust property. The views were amazing, you could see right out to the coast. Unfortunately we had one very rainy day so we decided to go swimming in the morning then we baked cupcakes in the afternoon which Bella loved (both the baking and the eating of course!). On Wednesday we took a picnic lunch down to Happisburgh beach and took Bella to the new park there before the heavens opened again in the afternoon. On Thursday we spent the day in Norwich city, we had lunch in Pizza Express then did some shopping in the afternoon. I love Norwich, I think its such a beautiful city and it has such character with its little lanes and cobbled streets. On the Friday we visited Wroxham Barns Junior Farm in the morning which you can read more about here. To make the most of the sunshine we then went onto Felbrigg Hall in the afternoon for a walk around the gorgeous walled garden and an ice cream. In between all of the above we had lots of lovely walks with the dogs and some much needed relaxation time back at the house while Bella took her afternoon naps.

Overall we had a great week, we have had a pretty hectic few months so were desperately in need of a little family break together. Bella has thrived from having both Mummy and Daddy around for a whole week, she’s been coming out with loads of new words including now saying ‘yes’ in a really british accent instead of ‘yeah’, it is seriously cute!! Bella’s been making us laugh with her crazy antics every single day and i’m really going to miss her when we go back to work this week. Luckily we now only have a couple of weeks back home before we jet off to Ibiza for a week in the sun! It will be Bella’s first plane trip and i’m extremely slightly nervous about it now! So any tips for flying with an almost two year old would be much appreciated!!
